Post-Soviet States
The post-Soviet states, also referred to as the former Soviet Union or the former Soviet republics, are the independent sovereign states that emerged/re-emerged from the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Prior to their independence, they existed as Republics of the Soviet Union, Union Republics, which were the top-level constituents of the Soviet Union. There are 15 post-Soviet states in total: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia (country), Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The National Archive Department of the Republic of Azerbaijan () is a governmental agency within the Cabinet of Azerbaijan in charge of managing, maintaining, protecting and updating national archives of Azerbaijan. The agency is headed by Atakhan Pashayev. The National Archives of Belarus (; ) are located in Minsk. It is the largest repository of documents on the Belarusian history of the 20th century. The archive is an institution of the archival industry that provides the storage of documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus. The National Archives of Estonia (NAE, ) has been the centre of archival administration in Estonia since 1999.
