Soviet Kitsch
''Soviet Kitsch'' is the major label debut and third album by American singer/songwriter Regina Spektor. It was originally released on Shoplifter Records in May 2003 but was reissued in August 2004 when Spektor signed with Sire Records. The title is drawn from Milan Kundera's expression for the vacuous aesthetics of Stalinist-style communism, a theme in his book ''The Unbearable Lightness of Being''. One version of the album was released with a bonus DVD, which included a short promotional film titled ''The Survival Guide to Soviet Kitsch'' and the music video for the song " Us." Reception "I became obsessed with ''Soviet Kitsch''," said British singer Kate Nash. "The songs are so powerful and raw. There's a track called 'Chemo Limo' where she sings about having kids. Regina Ilyinichna Spektor (, ; born February 18, 1980) is a Russian Americans, Russian-born American singer, songwriter, and pianist. Kill Kenada
Kill Kenada is a British rock music group from Bognor Regis, England, formed in 2001 and inspired by Fugazi, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Urusei Yatsura, At the Drive-In, and others. The band's name is a reference to the character Shotaro Kaneda (Akira). The name Kill Kenada was chosen by accident, when lead singer Tim Smithen accidentally misspelled Kaneda, and the incorrect spelling has been maintained. Graham Maby (born 1 September 1952) is an English bass guitar player. He has recorded and toured with Joe Jackson since his first album, appearing on most of Jackson's albums and tours. Maby was born and raised in the central south coast town of Gosport. Working exclusively with Joe Jackson since the late seventies, in the mid 1980s he began working live and in the studio with Marshall Crenshaw. In the early 90s he toured with Graham Parker, Garland Jeffreys, the Silos, and Darden Smith. In 1996, Maby joined They Might Be Giants, and from 1998 until 2002, he recorded and toured with Natalie Merchant. Oren Bloedow (born July 3, 1965) is an American singer, guitarist and bassist. He founded the band Elysian Fields in 1995 with Jennifer Charles. His father, Jerry Bloedow, was a playwright, poet, and film editor whose theater, the Hardware Poet's Playhouse, participated in the New York avant-garde scene in the 1950s and 1960s. Career Bloedow's earliest visibility dates from New York's legendary venue CBGB, where his high school band, Bones Jones and the Jones Tones, played several times at the beginning of the 1980s. His first true professional musical affiliations were with Phillip Johnston, Bobby Previte, and Wayne Horvitz, all of whom worked with him in Bobby Radcliff's blues band shortly afterward.
