Southern Sydney Freight Line
The Southern Sydney Freight Line (SSFL) is a freight-only railway line in the south-western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. The line was built to segregate freight trains from the Sydney Trains network. It forms part of a dedicated freight only corridor between Port Botany and Macarthur railway station, Macarthur. The line is managed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation. Route The SSFL runs from Chullora to Macarthur railway station, Macarthur. Chullora
Chullora, a suburb in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown local government area, is located 15 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. The suburb is entirely industrial and commercial, and in the 2021 census recorded a population of 14. History The suburb of Chullora was originally part of the area known as Liberty Plains, which was land given to the first free settlers who arrived in Sydney Cove on 6 January 1793. In the 1950s, many immigrants from Europe were housed in the area. Once established, they moved to other parts of Sydney. Chullora was the name used for one of the estates in this area. The Moorebank Intermodal Terminal is an intermodal terminal in the south-western Sydney suburb of Moorebank. Moorebank has two intermodal terminals. The first to be operational was the IMEX (Import Export) terminal to transfer containers to Port Botany. The second is the Interstate terminal. Wye (rail)
In railroad structures and rail terminology, a wye (like the'' 'Y' ''glyph) or triangular junction (often shortened to just triangle) is a triangular joining arrangement of three Track (rail transport), rail lines with a railroad switch (set of points) at each corner connecting to the incoming lines. A turning wye is a specific case. Where two rail lines join, or where a spur diverges from a railroad's mainline, wyes can be used at a Junction (rail), mainline rail junction to allow incoming trains to travel in either direction. Wyes can also be used for turning railway equipment, and generally cover less area than a balloon loop doing the same job, but at the cost of two additional sets of points to construct and then maintain. RailCorp
Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) was an agency of the Government of New South Wales, Australia, established in 2004 pursuant to the ''Transport Administration Act 1988''. It was a division under the control of Transport for NSW, following the latter's establishment in 2011. On 20 June 2020, RailCorp was disbanded with its functions taken over by Transport Asset Holding Entity. Cabramatta Railway Station
Cabramatta railway station is located on the Main Southern line, serving the Sydney suburb of Cabramatta. It is served by Sydney Trains' T2 Leppington & Inner West Line, T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line and T5 Cumberland line services. History Cabramatta station opened in 1870 on the Granville to Liverpool section of the Main South line. On 8 October 1924, Cabramatta line became a junction station when another branch of the Main South line opened from Sefton, joining the existing line just north of the station. Ingleburn Railway Station
Ingleburn railway station is a heritage-listed railway station located on the Main Southern line, serving the Sydney suburb of Ingleburn. It is served by Sydney Trains' T8 Airport & South line services. History Ingleburn station opened on 19 August 1883. An additional track was opened to the west of the station in 1995 as part of the Glenfield - Ingleburn passing loop. This unelectrified track was used by freight and long-distance passenger trains. In December 2012, the track was incorporated into the Southern Sydney Freight Line and became freight only. In April 2014, a major upgrade commenced.
