South Africa–Ukraine Relations
South African-Ukrainian relations refers to the current and historical relations between South Africa and Ukraine. South Africa established an embassy in Kyiv in October 1992 while Ukraine established an embassy in Pretoria in 1995. Overview Russo-Ukrainian War South Africa has avoided criticising Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea and instead argued for solidarity amongst BRICS nations. Although initially critical of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, South Africa sought to repair and maintain friendly relations with Russia. Liubov Abravitova
Liubov Aleksandrivna Abravitova ( Ukrainian: Любов Олександрівна Абравітова; born 5 November 1980) is a Ukrainian diplomat who is currently serving as the Ukrainian Ambassador to South Africa, in office since 2020. Previously, she served as the Ambassador to Botswana from 2021 until 2024 and Mozambique from 2021 until 2025. Early life and education Abravitova was born on 5 November 1980 in Bender in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic and grew up in Odesa, Ukraine. She graduated from the Odesa National University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and then from the University of Geneva with a Master of Advanced Studies specialising in European security issues. Al Jama-ah
Al Jama-ah (, ) is a South African political party. It was formed in 2007 by present leader Ganief Hendricks and contested the 2009, 2014, 2019 and 2024 national elections. The party aims to support Muslim rights and interests, though the party states that it supports working for the shared interest of all South Africans from different religious and cultural backgrounds. Geordin Gwyn Hill-Lewis (born 31 December 1986) is a South African politician who is the Mayor of Cape Town. A member of the Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance, he was elected mayor in November 2021. Flag Of Ukraine
The national flag of Ukraine (, ) consists of equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. The blue and yellow bicolor flag was first seen during the 1848 Spring of Nations in Lemberg (Lviv), the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria within the Austrian Empire. It was later adopted as a state flag by the short-lived Ukrainian People's Republic, the West Ukrainian People's Republic, and the Ukrainian State following the Russian Revolution. In March 1939, it was also adopted by Carpatho-Ukraine. However, when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, the use of the bicolor flag was banned, and it was replaced by the flag of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Cape Town City Hall
Cape Town City Hall is a large Edwardian building, built in 1905, and located in Cape Town's city centre. It is located on the Grand Parade, to the west of the Castle, and is built from honey-coloured oolitic limestone, imported from Bath in England. History The building was designed as the result of a public competition, the winning architects being Messrs Harry Austin Reid and Frederick George Green, with the contractors being Messrs T. Howard and F. G. Scott. Much of the building material, including fixtures and fittings was imported from Europe. The building was formally opened by the Mayor of Cape Town, Hyman Liberman. The Organ was built by Messrs Norman and Beard of London and Norwich, the specifications were drawn up by Sir George Martin, organist of St Paul's Cathedral in London especially for the City Hall.
