South Africa National Basketball Team
South Africa national basketball team is the basketball team that represents South Africa in international competitions. The governing body of the team is Basketball South Africa. Team South Africa is one of FIBA's youngest members, as it joined in 1992, yet it has qualified for every FIBA Africa Championship between 1997 and 2011. Recently, South Africa has not been active at international competitions as the federation had withdrawn for several qualification competitions. The last games by the men's team were in 2017. Basketball South Africa (BSA) is the governing body for men's and women's basketball in South Africa, and is responsible for the administration of the South African national basketball teams (both men's and women's), BSA has been an affiliate of FIBA Africa since 1992 and its offices are located in Johannesburg. The president (corporate title), president is Sanele Mthiyane. BSA was admitted to FIBA in 1992, and its senior team has since competed at the AfroBasket but has yet to qualify for the FIBA World Cup. Lehlogonolo "Hlogi" Sechaba Tholo (born 12 November 1992) is a South African basketball player who last played for the Cape Town Tigers and the South Africa national basketball team. Professional career In the 2021 season, Tholo played with the Soweto Panthers. With the Panthers, he reached the BNL Final in which he recorded 25 points, 5 rebounds in 7 assists. 3x3 Basketball At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
3x3 basketball was among the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, held in Birmingham, England. This variation of basketball and its wheelchair counterpart was staged at the Games for the first time. All four tournaments took place between 29 July and 2 August 2022. FIBA AfroBasket 2025 will be the 31st edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament will be hosted by Angola for the fourth time between 12 and 24 August. Tunisia are the two-time defending champion, having won the 2017 and 2021 tournaments. Host selection * * * * * FIBA Africa decided to announce the host country in March 2024. On 12 March, Angola were reported to be given the hosting rights. On 26 March 2024, Angola received the hosting rights, beating fellow bidders Egypt, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia. Angola's organizational capacity and infrastructure was one of the driving factors in Angola's selection. This will be Angola's first time hosting since 2007. AfroBasket 2021
FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021. The tournament featured 16 teams, with South Sudan debuting at the AfroBasket stage. Tunisia was the defending champion, having won the 2017 tournament and they defended their title with a final win over Ivory Coast, while Senegal won the bronze medal.
