''Sorry, Wrong Number'' is a 1958 Australian television play based on Lucille Fletcher's radio play ''Sorry, Wrong Number''. It starred Georgie Sterling. Plot The bed-ridden Mrs Stevenson hears on a telephone, due to crossed wires, that a murder is being plotted to occur tonight. She calls various people in a desperate attempt to get someone to believe her story. As the night goes on, she becomes increasingly concerned that the victim may be someone she knows. Philip Albright
Philip Albright (died 21 July 1959), was an American actor and writer who worked for a number of years in Australia. He came to Australia in 1949 to appear in ''Dream Girl'' on stage and decided to stay, becoming a writer at the ABC, on radio and TV. He was one of the key radio writers for Ron Roberts Productions. He wrote some of the first TV dramas in Australia. He died in 1959 and his play ''The Break'' was produced after his death. Raymond Edward Menmuir (10 September 1930 – 26 March 2016) was a British-Australian director and producer. His career included producing 44 episodes of ''The Professionals'' and directing 12 episodes of ''Upstairs, Downstairs''. He also produced an Australian version of ''The Professionals'' called '' Special Squad'' for the Ten Network in 1984. Early life Menmuir was born in Perth, Western Australia, as the eldest of four children to Edward Menmuir and his wife Dorothy (née Williams). His father ensured Menmuir had a good education, at Wesley College. Work His first employment was as a reporter at the Perth Daily News, but he then transferred to the Australian Broadcasting Commission as a radio producer. ''Sorry, Wrong Number'' is a 1948 American thriller film noir directed by Anatole Litvak, from a screenplay by Lucille Fletcher, based on her 1943 radio play of the same name. The film stars Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster. It follows a bedridden woman, who overhears the plot of murder. While on the telephone, she attempts to help her husband solve the mystery and prevent the crime. Stanwyck was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. It is one of the few pre-1950 Paramount Pictures films which remained in the studio's library (the rest are currently owned by NBCUniversal). Georgie Sterling was an Australian actress, noted for her work in radio and television, especially in TV films and serials, although she also appeared in theatre. She started her career in the late 1950s and appeared in a TV movie version of Hamlet. In serials she played Isabella Drysdale in the ill-fated series ''Taurus Rising'' but is possibly best known for her role as May Walters in '' Sons and Daughters''. ''Box for One'' is a live television play which has been presented three times, twice on British broadcaster BBC and once on Australian broadcaster ABC. It is a drama about a "spiv", and the entire 30-minute drama takes place in a London telephone box. It was written by Peter Brook. Premise A London "spiv" enters an outdoor telephone booth.
