Sonsonate Department
Sonsonate () is a department of El Salvador in the western part of the country. The capital is Sonsonate. The department has an area of 1,226 km². Created on June 12, 1824, the El Salvador National Parliament decided on January 29, 1859, to separate the cities of Apaneca, San Pedro Puxtla, Guaymango, and Jujutla from the department and transfer these cities to the Santa Ana Department. Sonsonate was the second capital of the Federal Republic of Central America in 1834. The department remains a center of Pipil culture in the country, preserving several ancient traditions and home to most of the few remaining Nahua speakers in El Salvador. It is a predominantly agricultural area, with extremely fertile volcanic soils that were once the most valuable resource in Central America for the Spanish conquistadors, who profited from its ancient cacao plantations. Miss de El Salvador is a national beauty pageant in El Salvador where various winners compete at Miss Universe pageant. History The Miss El Salvador was the organization in charge of choosing the representative to Miss Universe. The organization since its birth sent a representative to Miss Universe (except in 1980) and Miss World (from 1975 to 1993, when the organization lost the franchise.) Irma Dimas (born Irma Marina Dimas Pineda; 9 August 1986 in San Salvador, El Salvador) is a Salvadoran politician, former model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss El Salvador 2005 on 27 February 2005. 1932 Salvadoran Peasant Massacre
(Spanish for 'The Massacre') refers to a communist- Indigenous rebellion that took place in El Salvador between 22 and 25 January 1932. After the revolt was suppressed, it was followed by large-scale government killings in western El Salvador, which resulted in the deaths of 10,000 to 40,000 people. Another 100 soldiers were killed during the suppression of the revolt. On 22 January 1932, members of the Communist Party of El Salvador (PCES) and Pipil peasants launched a rebellion against the Salvadoran military government due to widespread social unrest and the suppression of democratic political freedoms, especially after the cancellation of the results of the 1932 legislative election. During the rebellion, the communist and Indigenous rebels, led by Farabundo Martí and Feliciano Ama, respectively, captured several towns and cities across western El Salvador, killing an estimated 2,000 people and causing over US$100,000 in property damage. Prudencia Ayala (28 April 1885 – 11 July 1936) was a Salvadoran writer, social activist, and pioneer campaigner for women's rights in El Salvador, as well as the first woman to run for president in El Salvador and Latin America. Early life Prudencia Ayala was born on 28 April 1885, to a working-class Indigenous family in Sonzacate. Her parents were Aurelia Ayala and Vicente Chief. Sonsonate, El Salvador
Sonsonate () is a city and district of El Salvador, of which it is also its municipal seat. It has an estimated population of 71,980 inhabitants for the year 2020. Sonsonate is the second most important city in western El Salvador. The town was founded under the name of "Villa del Espíritu Santo" on vacant lots near the town of los Izalcos in 1552. However, this foundation would be extremely ephemeral, because the following year, in 1553, this villa would be transferred to its current location, with the name of "Villa de la Santísima Trinidad de Sonsonate", in a cocoa-producing area. With the passage of time, the town would be known simply by the name of Sonsonate.
