''Songs by Ricky'' is the fourth album by Ricky Nelson, released in November 1959 by Imperial Records. The Jordanaires provide vocal accompaniment, the last Nelson album on which they do so. It contains songs from the Burnettes, Baker Knight, and Nelson's uncle Don Nelson (screenwriter), Don Nelson. Jimmie Haskell was the arranger, and Charles "Bud" Dant produced the album. The album debuted on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' Best Selling LPs chart in the issue dated September 29, 1959, remaining on the chart for 26 weeks and peaking at number 22. It reached number nine on the Cashbox (magazine), ''Cashbox'' albums chart during a 19-week stay on the chart. Ricky Nelson
Eric Hilliard "Ricky" Nelson (May 8, 1940 – December 31, 1985) was an American musician and actor. From age eight, he starred alongside his family in the radio and television series ''The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet''. In 1957, he began a long and successful career as a popular recording artist. His fame as both a recording artist and television star also led to a motion picture role co-starring alongside John Wayne, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan, and Angie Dickinson in Howard Hawks's Western (genre), western feature film ''Rio Bravo (film), Rio Bravo'' (1959). Dorsey William Burnett Jr. (December 28, 1932 – August 19, 1979) was an American early rockabilly singer. With his younger brother Johnny Burnette and a friend named Paul Burlison, he was a founding member of The Rock and Roll Trio. He is also the father of country musician and former Fleetwood Mac member Billy Burnette. John Joseph Burnette (March 25, 1934 – August 14, 1964) was an American singer and songwriter of rockabilly and pop music. In 1952, Johnny, his brother Dorsey Burnette, and their mutual friend Paul Burlison, formed the band that became known as the Rock and Roll Trio. His career was cut short on August 14, 1964, when he drowned following a boat accident, aged 30. He is the father of 1980s rockabilly singer Rocky Burnette.
