''Somewhere in the Middle'' is Jason Boland & The Stragglers's fourth album. It was released in September 2004. It is the first album by the band to be produced by Lloyd Maines. The song "Thunderbird Wine" is a cover of the Billy Joe Shaver song featured on the 1981 album ''I'm Just An Old Chunk Of Coal''. The album itself is dedicated to Shaver, stating "may he live forever." The song "Hank" was originally recorded by Eleven Hundred Springs and released on their 2004 album, ''Bandwagon'' under the title, "Hank Williams Wouldn't Make It Now In Nashville, Tennessee". The last track features Randy Crouch singing lead vocals on the song, "Hope You Make It." Texas country music (more popularly known just as Texas country or Texas music) is a rapidly growing subgenre of country music from Texas. Texas country is a unique style of Western music and is often associated with other distinct neighboring styles, including Red Dirt from Oklahoma, the New Mexico music of New Mexico, and Tejano in Texas, all of which have influenced one another over the years, and are popular throughout Texas, the Midwest, the Southwest, and other parts of the Western United States. Texas Country is known for fusing neotraditional country with the outspoken, care-free views of outlaw country. Lloyd Maines
Lloyd Wayne Maines (born June 28, 1951) is an American country music record producer, musician and songwriter. He was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame as one of the first three members, the other two being Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is the father of Natalie Maines who is best known as the lead singer of The Chicks. Life and career Maines was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, and is now based in Austin, Texas. Arguably best known as a pedal steel player, Maines is a multi-instrumentalist who has also performed and/or recorded playing dobro, electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin, lap steel guitar, banjo and bell tree. Billy Joe Shaver
Billy Joe Shaver (August 16, 1939 – October 28, 2020) was an American outlaw country singer and songwriter, as well as an actor. Biography Shaver was born in Corsicana, Texas, and raised by his mother, Victory Watson Shaver. Until he was 12, he spent a great deal of time with his grandmother in Corsicana, so his mother could work in Waco. He sometimes accompanied his mother to her job at a local nightclub, where he began to be exposed to country music. Shaver's mother remarried about the time that his grandmother died, so his older sister Patricia and he moved in with their mother and new stepfather. Shaver left school after the eighth grade to help his uncles pick cotton, but occasionally returned to school to play sports. Shaver joined the U.S. Navy on his 17th birthday. Eleven Hundred Springs
Eleven Hundred Springs is a country music band from Dallas, Texas. History Eleven Hundred Springs was founded by Matt Hillyer (lead vocalist, guitar, primary songwriter), Steven Berg (bass), and Richie Vasquez (drums) in 1998. Prior to forming Eleven Hundred Springs, Matt and Steven had played together in three previous bands, most notably the Dallas rockabilly band Lone Star Trio. The band's early days included a lengthy Monday night residency at Adair's in Deep Ellum. It was during this time that the band's first album, ''Welcome to Eleven Hundred Springs'', was recorded, as well as ''Live at Adair's''. Stoney LaRue (born Stoney Larue Phillips in 1977) is an American Texas Country/ Red Dirt artist. Life and career Born in Taft, Texas, LaRue was raised in Yanush/Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma where he still visits regularly and began playing country music at a young age. LaRue moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, and began to play in the various bars around the college town, as well as his brother, Bo Phillips. He befriended Jason Boland and Cody Canada and the three moved into the infamous "Yellow House" where they would have late night jam sessions and entertain other various musicians around the town, like Mike McClure and Brandon Jenkins.
