Something Anything
"Something Anything" is the second single taken from Indie band Travis' sixth studio album '' Ode to J. Smith''. The single peaked at #113 on the UK singles chart. Background The single was released on 15 September 2008. It is the first Travis single not to be written by singer Fran Healy, as bassist Dougie Payne is credited to having co-written the song. It was the only song on the album not to be written during a 5-week album sessions writing period, and was instead written months later. Payne also wrote the B-side, "Tail of the Tiger". The artwork of the single shows a heart, with a hole in either side, representing the main song and two b-sides, as confirmed by singer Fran Healy. Travis (band)
Travis are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1990, and composed of Fran Healy (musician), Fran Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dougie Payne (bass guitar, backing vocals), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals), and Neil Primrose (musician), Neil Primrose (drums, percussion). The band's name comes from the character Travis Henderson (played by Harry Dean Stanton) from the film ''Paris, Texas (film), Paris, Texas'' (1984). The band released their debut album, ''Good Feeling (Travis album), Good Feeling'' (1997), to moderate success where it debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was later awarded a silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry (British Phonographic Industry, BPI) in January 2000. An ode (from ) is a type of lyric poetry, with its origins in Ancient Greece. Odes are elaborately structured poems praising or glorifying an event or individual, describing nature intellectually as well as emotionally. A classic ode is structured in three major parts: the ''strophe'', the ''antistrophe'', and the ''epode''. Different forms such as the ''homostrophic ode'' and the ''irregular ode'' also enter. Greek odes were originally poetic pieces performed with musical accompaniment. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom, United States and New Zealand in the early to mid-1980s. Although the term was originally used to describe rock music released through independent record labels, by the 1990s it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced. Dougie Payne
Douglas Payne (born 14 November 1972) is a Scottish musician who is the bassist and backing vocalist of the rock band Travis. Career Payne was born in the south side of Glasgow, and was educated at Woodfarm High School. He was also a member of the local 28th Glasgow (Giffnock) Scout Group in his youth. He went on to become a student at the Glasgow School of Art. In 1994 his friend Fran Healy asked him to join Travis, who were called Glass Onion at the time. Payne had never touched a bass guitar in his life; for weeks he refused to do it, until finally he agreed. Although he is better known for his bass guitar playing and backing vocals, Payne has written songs of his own. Tracks such as "The Score", "Know Nothing" and "Good for Nothing" were all penned by Payne and have featured as b-sides on the band's more recent singles. Francis Healy (born 23 July 1973) is a Scottish musician. He is the lead singer and lyricist of the band Travis (band), Travis, having written nearly all of the songs on their first six studio albums along with their ninth and tenth, with the seventh and eighth containing material written by other members of the band. Healy released his debut solo album, titled ''Wreckorder'', in October 2010. Early life Born in Stafford, England, Healy grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, his mother's home town. His mother had moved back to Scotland after divorcing her husband. Healy has said that both his mother and his grandmother were major influences on him. "Lola" is a song by the English Rock music, rock band the Kinks, written by frontman Ray Davies for their 1970 album ''Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One''.
