Somerset Butler, 1st Earl Of Carrick
Somerset Hamilton Butler, 1st Earl of Carrick, PC (6 September 1718 – 15 April 1774), known as the Viscount Ikerrin from 1721 to 1744, was the son of Thomas Butler, 6th Viscount Ikerrin and Margaret Hamilton, daughter and co-heiress of James Hamilton of Bangor, County Down and Sophie Mordaunt. He succeeded his brother James Butler as the 8th Viscount Ikerrin on 20 October 1721. Subsequently, he was invested as a Privy Council of Ireland on 14 April 1746. Henry Boyle, 1st Earl of Shannon, Privy Council of Ireland, PC (Ire) (1682 – 27 December 1764), was an Anglo-Irish politician who served as the speaker of the Irish House of Commons from 1733 to 1756. A prominent Member of parliament, parliamentarian who sat for almost fifty years in the Parliament of Ireland, Boyle frequently defended Irish interests against British Crown officials, eventually leading to a legal crisis which saw him step down as speaker in return for a peerage. Earl of Carrick, in the barony of Iffa and Offa East, County Tipperary, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. First creation The title was first created in 1315 for Sir Edmund Butler, Justiciar of Ireland, by King Edward II. The title is linked to the manor of Karryk Mac Gryffin (the modern town of Carrick-on-Suir) in the barony of Iffa and Offa East, County Tipperary. Edmund was the father of James Butler, 1st Earl of Ormond, and John Butler of Clonamicklon. However, upon his death in 1321, the earldom was not inherited by his son and heir. Armar Lowry-Corry, 1st Earl Belmore (7 April 1740 – 2 February 1802) was an Irish nobleman and politician. Background He was born Armar Lowry, the first son of Galbraith Lowry (later Lowry-Corry) MP, of Ahenis, County Tyrone by his wife Sarah Corry, second daughter and eventual co-heiress of Colonel John Corry, MP, of Castle Coole, County Fermanagh.
