The Society for Endocrinology is an international membership organisation and registered charity representing scientists, clinicians and nurses who work with hormones. The Society was established in 1946, and currently has approximately 3,000 members. The Endocrine Society is a professional, international medical organization in the field of endocrinology and metabolism, founded in 1916 as The Association for the Study of Internal Secretions. The official name of the organization was changed to the Endocrine Society on January 1, 1952. It is a leading organization in the field and publishes four leading journals. Márta Korbonits
Márta Korbonits is a Hungarian physician, Professor of Endocrinology and deputy director of the William Harvey Research Institute at the Queen Mary University of London. She is an internationally recognised expert in pituitary tumorigenesis. She was elected President of the Society for Endocrinology and awarded the Endocrine Society's Laureate Award in 2023. Early life and education Korbonits studied medicine and completed her early training in Budapest. She was first introduced to endocrinology during her fourth year of medical school, where she was inspired by Edit Gláz. Established in 1996, Bioscientifica Ltd is the commercial subsidiary of the Society for Endocrinology, and provides publishing, events, and association management services to biomedical societies, and to the pharmaceutical industry. Although the company generates profits, these are redistributed to Bioscientifica's partner societies to fund biomedical research and practice. Charles Dodds
Sir Edward Charles Dodds, 1st Baronet (13 October 1899 – 16 December 1973) was a British biochemist. Personal life He was born in Liverpool in 1899, the only child of Ralph Edward Dodds, a shoe retailer, and Jane (née Pack) Dodds. The family shortly moved to Leeds, then to Darlington and then to Chesham, Bucks, where he attended Harrow County School. From there he entered the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London in 1916, spent one year in the army in 1917, and qualified MRCS and LRCP in 1921. He died at Sussex Square in Paddington, London on 16 December 1973. Frank George Young
Sir Frank George Young FRS (25 March 1908 – 20 September 1988) was a distinguished biochemist, noted for his work on diabetes, Sir William Dunn Professor of Biochemistry at Cambridge University, and the first Master of Darwin College, Cambridge. Early life Young was born in London and educated at Alleyn's School, Dulwich and University College, London where he graduated in chemistry and physics in 1929.
