The Social Democratic Party (, PSD) is the largest political party in Romania. It is also the largest social democratic political party in the country. It was founded by Ion Iliescu, Romania's first democratically elected president at the 1990 Romanian general election. It is a member of the Progressive Alliance (PA), which was founded in 2013, Socialist International (SI), and the Party of European Socialists (PES). As of 2015, the PSD had 530,000 members. PSD traces its origins to the Democratic National Salvation Front (FDSN), a leftist breakaway group established in 1992 from the centre-left National Salvation Front (FSN) established after 1989. In 1993, this merged with three other parties to become the Party of Social Democracy in Romania (, PDSR), also translated as the Social Democracy Party of Romania. Sorin Mihai Grindeanu (; born 5 December 1973) is a Romanian politician who served as Prime Minister of Romania from January to June 2017 when he was removed by a motion of no confidence adopted by the Parliament. He served as ad interim President of the Chamber of Deputies in November 2021. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of Romania since 25 November 2021 as a part of the Ciucă Cabinet, along with Hunor Kelemen. Grindeanu was a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 2012 until the June 2016 local election, when he became president of the Timiș County Council. The Co-operative Party () is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom, supporting co-operative values and principles. The party currently has an electoral pact with the Labour Party. In 1993 it merged with two other parties to create the Party of Social Democracy in Romania (PSDR), although some dissatisfied members created a party with the same name later the same year. Democratic National Salvation Front
The Democratic National Salvation Front (, FDSN) was a Romanian political party formed by former President Ion Iliescu and his supporters stemming from the National Salvation Front (FSN) on 7 April 1992. It was the result of the breakup of the previously ruling FSN during the early 1990s. The smaller wing led by Petre Roman continued using the brand FSN. Unlike the Petre Roman wing of the FSN, which wanted faster economic reforms, the FDSN advocated for a socialist democracy and a slower pace of transition from the communist command economy to a social market economy. Mihai Tudose (; born 6 March 1967) is a Romanian politician, jurist and academic, deputy in the Parliament of Romania, a former Minister of Economy in 2017 and a former Prime Minister of Romania in 2018. The Chamber of Deputies () is the lower house in Romania's bicameral parliament. It has 312 regular seats to which deputies are elected by direct popular vote using party-list proportional representation to serve four-year terms. Additionally, the organisation of each national ethnic minority is entitled to a seat in the Chamber (under the limitation that a national minority is to be represented by one organisation only). Lucian N. Romașcanu (born 19 May 1967) is a Romanian politician serving as Minister of Culture from 2021 to 2023. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he has been Senator for Buzău since 2016. He previously served as Culture Minister from 2017 to 2018.
