Snowboarding At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's Big Air
The men's big air competition in snowboarding at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 14 February (qualification) and 15 February (final), at the Big Air Shougang in Beijing. Su Yiming of China won the event, his first Olympic gold medal. Mons Røisland of Norway won silver, his first Olympic medal, and Max Parrot of Canada won bronze. The defending champion was Sébastien Toutant. He was competing but did not make it to the final. Neither the 2018 silver medalist, Kyle Mack, nor the bronze medalist, Billy Morgan, qualified for the Olympics. At the 2021–22 FIS Snowboard World Cup, only two big air events were held before the Olympics, won by Jonas Bösiger and Su Yiming. Mark McMorris was also the 2021 world champion, with Parrot and Marcus Kleveland being the silver and bronze medalists, respectively. Ståle Sandbech (born 3 June 1993) is a Norwegian snowboarder, who specialises in Big Air, and Slopestyle. He has participated at the 2010 Winter Olympics, 2010, 2014 Winter Olympics, 2014, 2018 Winter Olympics, 2018, and Snowboarding at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's slopestyle, 2022 Winter Olympics and won a silver medal in the Snowboarding at the 2014 Winter Olympics – Men's slopestyle, Men's slopestyle in 2014. Niek van der Velden (born 28 May 2000) is a Dutch snowboarder. Biography Van der Velden started snowboarding when he was eight years old. Van der Velden used to do gymnastics, but when he was 15 years old, he was scouted by the Dutch Ski Federation. For that reason, Van der Velden moved from Nispen to Papendal to train at the national training centre, part of the national junior team. In 2016 he made his World Cup debut in South Korea. In March 2017, Van der Velden broke his left tibia in Sierra Nevada, Spain. He couldn't compete for a few months and returned to competition in September 2017.
