Arthur Snelling
Sir Arthur Wendell Snelling (7 May 1914 – 25 June 1996) was a senior British civil servant and diplomat. He was educated at Ackworth School, Yorkshire, and University College, London. He was Study Group Secretary at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, 1934–1936. He joined the Dominions Office in 1936, and became Private Secretary to the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in 1939. Snelling was Deputy High Commissioner for the UK in New Zealand, 1947–1950, and the Union of South Africa, May 1953–January 1956. He was Assistant Under-Secretary of State at the Commonwealth Relations Office, 1956–1959, and British High Commissioner in Ghana, 1959–1961. Snelling was Deputy Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, 1961–1969, and Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, 1970–1973. Robert Matthew Snelling (born December 19, 2003) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Miami Marlins organization. Amateur career Snelling attended Robert McQueen High School in Reno, Nevada, where he played on both the baseball team as a pitcher and on the football team as a linebacker and quarterback, the latter of which his father was head coach of. During the summer of 2021, he participated in the High School All-American Game as well as in the All-Star High School Home Run Derby at Coors Field where he hit 21 home runs. He was named Region Player of the Year following his senior football season. As a senior for the baseball team in 2022, he struck out 145 batters while also batting .450. Minnesota State Highway 51 (MN 51) is a highway in Minnesota, which runs from its intersection with State Highway 5 (W. 7th Street) in Saint Paul and continues north to its northern terminus at its interchange with Interstate 694 / U.S. Highway 10 in Arden Hills. Highway 51 is also known as Snelling Avenue for most of its route. A small section of the route is known as Montreal Avenue in the "West Seventh" and Highland neighborhoods of Saint Paul, and the northern section in Arden Hills is known as Hamline Avenue. It provides a route for vehicle traffic, as well as the Metro A Line, a Bus rapid transit link operated by Metro. Snelling Avenue is also served by Snelling Avenue station on the Metro Green Line. Geography Snelling is located near the center of Barnwell County at (33.241284, -81.453184). It is located on the north bank of the Merced River north of Merced, at an elevation of . The population was 238 at the 2020 census. History The "Snelling Ranch" post office opened in 1853, was closed for a time during 1861, and changed its name to "Snelling" in 1870. His short stories about Native American life were the first to attempt to accurately portray the Native Americans living on the plains and are among the first attempts at realism by an American writer. William Alexander Snelling (born 6 August 1997) is an Australian rules footballer who most recently played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Roy R. Snelling (September 30, 1934 — April 21, 2008) was an internationally renowned American entomologist who studied Hymenoptera, mainly ants, wasps and bees. He was the emeritus collections manager at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County where he worked for over 30 years, joining the museum in 1963 and retiring in 1993. He dedicated his professional life to making insect biodiversity better known and appreciated. Barbara Tuttle Snelling (; March 22, 1928November 2, 2015) was an American politician who served as the 78th lieutenant governor of Vermont from 1993 to 1997. She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 1996 while campaigning for governor. She was elected to the Vermont State Senate in 1998, where she served until she suffered a second stroke; she resigned in 2002.
