''Smile, It's the End of the World'' is the second full-length album by pop punk band Hawk Nelson. It was released on April 4, 2006. The record was a 2007 GMA Dove Award nominee for Rock Album, produced by Aaron Sprinkle. It was also a nominee for Recorded Music Packaging, designed by Jason Powers. It is also the longest album by the band, as well as the debut of guitarist Jonathan Steingard. ''Smile, It's the End of the World'' charted at No. 75 on the ''Billboard'' 200 after selling more than 14,000 copies in its opening week. Hawk Nelson was a Canadian Christian pop-punk band from Peterborough, Ontario. Formed in 2000, the band has released eight studio albums. Bassist/backing vocalist Daniel Biro was the band's only founding member to remain throughout their entire history. History Early independent releases (2000–2003) In 2000, Dunn, Clark, and Paige founded a Peterborough, Ontario, Peterborough-based group called "SWISH", while Biro sang lead vocals for a four-piece group called the "Cheese Monkeys from Planet Nine" from Barrie, Ontario. 38th GMA Dove Awards
The 38th Annual GMA Dove Awards were held on April 25, 2007 recognizing accomplishments of musicians for the year 2006. The show was held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, and was hosted by Brian Littrell, Natalie Grant, and Donnie McClurkin. This was the first year in which the awards were called the "GMA Dove Awards" since the 2006 edition was called the "GMA Music Awards". A Dove Award is an accolade by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the Christian music industry. The awards ceremonies presented annually and have been held in Nashville, Tennessee except in 2011 and 2012 when they were held in Atlanta, Georgia. He is most known for his mastering work and his studio, Bernie Grundman Mastering, which he opened in 1984 in Hollywood. Randy Torres is an American guitarist, percussionist, keyboardist and background vocalist from Seattle. He has previously played for the bands Project 86, a Christian rock group, and Crash Rickshaw.
