Sliema Wanderers Football Club, nicknamed "tax-Xelin" (proselytizers, of the shilling), is a professional Maltese people, Maltese association football, football club. It is the most successful team in Malta and hails from the seaside town of Sliema. It currently plays in the Maltese Premier League. History The club was founded in 1909. The club competed in the first ever Maltese Premier League season in Maltese Premier League 1909–10, 1909–10 and finished in second position to Floriana F.C., Floriana after the five-game season came to an end. Sliema
Sliema ( ) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta in the Districts of Malta#Northern Harbour District, Northern Harbour District. It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, bars, dining, and café life. It is also the most densely populated town on the island. Lining the coastline is a promenade known as the Sliema Front that has become the ideal spot for joggers and walkers as well as a prolific meeting place for locals during the summer season. Sliema is also known for its numerous rocky beaches, water sports and hotels. The Strand in Sliema is a popular viewing spot for fireworks displays that take place in August. 2015–16 Maltese FA Trophy
The 2015–16 Maltese FA Trophy was the 78th version of the knockout tournament. The competition started on 5 September 2015 and ended on 14 May 2016. Birkirkara were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the semi-finals by Sliema Wanderers. Format This version of the Maltese FA Trophy was a single elimination tournament contested by 65 teams. The winner, Sliema Wanderers, earned a spot in the Europa League. Sliema were unable to obtain a UEFA license. As a result, the berth was given to the fourth-placed team of the Premier League. Jamie Pace MacDonald (born 1 January 1977) is a retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in England, he played for the Malta national team at international level.
