Skylarkin' (Mic Christopher Album)
''Skylarkin is Mic Christopher's only solo album, which was released following his death in November 2001. The album was finalised by Karl Odlum (of Mic's old band, the Mary Janes) and David Odlum (of the Frames). Many fellow musicians from the Irish music scene contributed to the album including Glen Hansard and Colm Mac Con Iomaire of the Frames, Rónán Ó Snodaigh of Kíla, Lisa Hannigan and Gemma Hayes. ''Skylarkin' ''entered the Irish charts at No. 39 in 2002 and in March of the following year won ''Best Irish album'' at the Meteor Awards. November 2004 saw the album achieving Platinum status in Ireland (selling over 15,000 copies). Mic Christopher
Michael "Mic" Christopher (21 September 1969 – 29 November 2001) was an Irish singer-songwriter, best known for his posthumously-released debut album '' Skylarkin'''. Early life Michael Christopher was born in The Bronx, New York City, to Irish parents Harry Christopher from Dublin and Vaun Heaney from Sixmilecross, County Tyrone. They moved back to Dublin in 1972 when Michael was still a toddler. He later attended Coláiste Chilliain in Clondalkin. He started playing traditional Irish music with school groups until he was about fifteen years old when he started busking. Busking in Dublin over the next five years, Christopher made friends with many of the musicians on the Dublin circuit, including brothers Karl and David Odlum, Glen Hansard and others. "Heyday" is a song by Irish-American rock singer, Mic Christopher, released in October 2000 as the title track from his first solo EP 'Heyday'. It was written by Christopher. It was re-released on January 23 2004. In 2002, it was featured in Skylarkin', Christopher's first and only solo album. It was later released after his death in November 2001. Gemma Hayes (born 11 August 1977) is an Irish musician, singer-songwriter and composer. Primarily known as a vocalist and guitarist, she is also proficient with a wide range of instruments, including the piano and the harmonica. She is also a member of The Cake Sale, Printer Clips and Trio (with Lisa Hannigan and Paul Noonan).
