Singapore Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Singapore national field hockey team represents Singapore in men's international field hockey competitions. History Singapore has competed only once in the Olympics, in field hockey at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. Placed in a group with India men's national field hockey team, India, Afghanistan men's national field hockey team, Afghanistan, and United States men's national field hockey team, United States, Singapore won 6-1 against USA, 5-0 against Afghanistan, before losing 6-0 to eventual gold medalists India in their final game. They were runners-up in their first group, but in the classification round did not win any games, losing by big margins to Belgium men's national field hockey team, Belgium, Australia men's national field hockey team, Australia, and New Zealand men's national field hockey team, New Zealand to finish eighth overall out of twelve teams. Singapore Hockey Federation
The Singapore Hockey Federation is the sports governing body, governing body of field hockey in Singapore. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF Asian Hockey Federation. The headquarters of the federation are in Singapore. Mathavan Devadas is the President of the Singapore Hockey Federation and Abdul Samad bin Mohamed Ismail is the General Secretary. History The history of field hockey in Singapore traces back to 1902 during British rule, during which the Royal Engineers introduced the sport at the Singapore Recreation Club. Eventually the Singapore Hockey Association was formed on 8 July 1931. The Association was formed under the auspices of Donald Hoblyn and the Police Sports Association. O.R.S Bateman was the first President of SHA. Later in 1939, the Singapore Women’s Hockey Association (SWHA) was also formed. Asian Games
The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation. The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. There have been nine nations that have hosted the Asian Games. 2007 Men's Hockey Asia Cup
The 2007 Men's Hockey Asia Cup was the seventh tournament of the Hockey Asia Cup for men. It was held from 31 August – 9 September 2007 in Chennai, India. India won, defeating Korea in the finals, seven goals to two. Korea came in second and Malaysia came third. India led 3-1 at halftime. In the early stages of the second half, Korea staged a walkout led by their coach, because of a decision by the umpire to disallow a goal scored by Korea. In response, India scored a goal through a counterattack in the next minute. Two Korean forwards had continued to argue with the umpire on the disallowed goal. Korea never recovered, while India's forward line scored 3 more goals to make it 7-1 before Korea reduced the margin to 7-2 in the penultimate minute. Baljit Singh, the Indian goalkeeper, was declared the man of the match for his excellent saves.
