Silchar (Lok Sabha Constituency)
Silchar Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam state in north-eastern India. From 1951 to 1971, the area under it was referred as Cachar constituency. The constituency covers the entirety of Cachar district in the Barak Valley. Jyotsna Chanda
Jyotsna Chanda (1904–1973) was a politician, member of the Congress Party and a Parliamentarian who served as a member from Assam. She served in the Third and Fourth Lok Sabha, from 1962 to 1967 and 1967–1970, respectively. Early life and education She was born on 28 March 1904 in Silchar, Assam, to late Shri Mahesh Chandra Datta. She did her schooling from Mission Girls' High School, Silchar, and graduated from Diocesan College, Calcutta, with a B.A. degree. 1962 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India between 19 and 25 February 1962 to elect members of the 3rd Lok Sabha, third Lok Sabha. Unlike the previous two elections, each constituency elected a single member. Jawaharlal Nehru won another landslide victory in his third and final election campaign. The Indian National Congress received 44.7% of the vote and won 361 of the 494 elected seats. This was only slightly lower than in the previous two elections and they still held over 70% of the seats in the Lok Sabha. 1957 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India between 24 February and 14 March 1957, the second elections to the Lok Sabha after independence. Elections to several state legislatures were held simultaneously. Under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, the Indian National Congress easily won a second term in power, taking 371 of the 494 seats. They gained an extra seven seats (the size of the Lok Sabha had been increased by five) and their vote share increased from 45% to 48%. The INC received nearly five times more votes than the Communist Party, the second largest party. Nibaran Chandra Laskar
Nibaran Chandra Laskar (14 January 1902 – 25 June 1987) was an Indian singer, musician, sportsman, social worker, professor and politician. He was a member of the Indian National Congress party.
