''Siegel–Schwall '70'' is an album by the blues-rock group the Siegel–Schwall Band. Released in 1970, it was their fourth album, and their last one for Vanguard Records. Produced as a vinyl LP, it was later re-released as a CD, also on the Vanguard label. ''Siegel–Schwall '70'' was the band's first record to feature their early 1970s lineup of Corky Siegel on piano and harmonica, Jim Schwall on guitar, Rollo Radford on bass, and Shelly Plotkin on drums. The album was recorded at Paragon Recording Studios in Chicago, except for the last song on each side — "Angel Food Cake" and "A Sunshine Day in My Mind" — which were recorded live at the Quiet Knight in Chicago. Siegel–Schwall Band
The Siegel–Schwall Band was an American electric blues band from Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1964 by Corky Siegel (piano, electric piano, harmonica, vocals) and Jim Schwall (guitar, mandolin, vocals). They played many live shows, and released ten albums. They disbanded in 1974. The Siegel–Schwall Band performed occasional concerts, and released two more albums, from 1987 to 2016. History Corky Siegel and Jim Schwall met each other when both were music students at Roosevelt University. Siegel, originally a saxophone, saxophonist, was interested in blues, while Schwall's background was mostly in country music. ''Shake!'' is an album by the blues-rock group the Siegel–Schwall Band. Their third album, it was released in 1968 by Vanguard Records as a vinyl LP. Mark Paul "Corky" Siegel (born October 24, 1943) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and composer. He plays harmonica and piano. He plays and writes blues and blues-rock music, and has also worked extensively on combining blues and classical music. He is best known as the co-leader of the Siegel-Schwall Band, and as the leader of the Chamber Blues group. Musical career Corky Siegel's professional music career began in 1964, when he met guitarist Jim Schwall. Both were studying music at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Jim Schwall (November 12, 1942 – June 19, 2022) was an American musician, singer-songwriter, and photographer. He was best known as a co-founder and member of the Siegel-Schwall Band. Musical career Jim Schwall was born in Evanston, Illinois. A singer-songwriter, he played guitar, as well as mandolin, bass guitar, accordion, and other instruments. He studied music at Roosevelt University. There he met Corky Siegel, and became interested in electric blues music. Schwall and Siegel formed a blues duo in 1964, playing at Chicago bars and clubs. Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910January 10, 1976), better known by his stage name Howlin' Wolf, was an American blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player. He was at the forefront of transforming acoustic Delta blues into electric Chicago blues, and over a four-decade career, recorded blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, and psychedelic rock. He is regarded as one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. Born into poverty in Mississippi, Burnett became a protégé of Delta blues musician Charley Patton in the 1930s.
