Shorten (file Format)
Shorten (SHN) is a file format used for compressing audio data. It is a form of lossless data compression, data compression of files and is used to Audio data compression, losslessly compress CD-quality audio files (44.1 kilohertz, kHz 16-binary digit, bit stereo Pulse-code modulation, PCM). Shorten is no longer developed and other lossless audio codecs such as Free Lossless Audio Codec, FLAC, Monkey's Audio (APE), TTA, and WavPack (WV) have become more popular. It is still in use to trade Bootleg recording, concert recordings that are already encoded as Shorten files. Shorten files use the .shn file extension. Education and Early Career Robinson studied natural sciences at University of Cambridge, Cambridge University between 1981 and 1984, where he specialized in physics. Meridian Lossless Packing, also known as Packed PCM (PPCM), is a lossless compression technique for PCM audio data developed by Meridian Audio, Ltd. MLP is the standard lossless compression method for DVD-Audio content (often advertised with the Advanced Resolution logo) and typically provides about 1.5:1 compression on most music material. MPEG-4 Audio Lossless Coding, also known as MPEG-4 ALS, is an extension to the MPEG-4 Part 3 audio standard to allow lossless audio compression. The extension was finalized in December 2005 and published as ISO/ IEC 14496-3:2005/Amd 2:2006 in 2006. The latest description of MPEG-4 ALS was published as subpart 11 of the MPEG-4 Audio standard (ISO/IEC 14496-3:2019) (5th edition) in December 2019.
