Shishō Jinja
, or in later sources, was Anji of Sashiki and later King of Chūzan, one of three polities on the island of Okinawa, before they were united. He was the progenitor of what became the First Shō dynasty. Life The son of Shishō was Shō Hashi, who is known as the first king of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Shō Hashi overthrew chief Bunei of Chūzan in 1406 and installed his father as king. His kingship was acknowledged by the Yongle Emperor of China, who caused a diplomatic mission to be sent to the Ryukyuan capital in 1415.Suganuma, Unryu. (2000). is a Japanese academic interested in international relations, especially China and Japan. Early life Suganuma grew up in China and in Japan. He was awarded a master's degree in Chinese Studies at St. John's University in 1992 and he earned a master's degree in International Relations at Syracuse University in 1993. His PhD was conferred by the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 1996.Oberlin University, Tokyo Suganuma Unryu faculty bio 2010. The Yuan dynasty, Yuan, Ming dynasty, Ming and Qing dynasty, Qing emperors of China intermittently sent diplomatic missions to Shuri, Okinawa, in the Ryukyu Islands. These diplomatic contacts were within the Sinocentrism#Sinocentric system, Sinocentric system of bilateral and multinational relationships in the Sinosphere. Hokuzan
, also known as before the 18th century, located in the north of Okinawa Island, was one of three independent political entities which controlled Okinawa in the 14th century during Sanzan period. The political entity was identified as a tiny country, a kingdom, or a principality by modern historians, however the ruler of Hokuzan was in fact not "kings" at all, but petty lords with their own retainers owing their direct service, and their own estates.
