The Shire of Nerang was a local government area in South East Queensland, Australia. The shire existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 1949. History On 11 November 1879, the Nerang Division was created as one of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 652. On 6 July 1883, Southport Division was formed from part of subdivision No. 1 of Nerang Division and part of subdivision No. 1 of Coomera Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', the Nerang Division became the Shire of Nerang on 31 March 1903. On 12 June 1914, part of Nerang Shire was separated to enable the establishment of the Town of Coolangatta. In 1927 the council met in their offices at Mudgeeraba. Nerang is a town and suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. In the , the suburb of Nerang had a population of 17,048 people. Geography The Nerang River flows through the locality from south to east, passing through the town. The river ultimately flows into the most southern part of Moreton Bay. Nerang has a small town centre in which banking and a range of other commercial and retail services are available. Of more prominence within the Division, is the development of a series of light industrial parks which house a diverse range of small and large business operations providing services such as panel beating, motor vehicle wrecking, a wide range of trades, printing and equipment hire services. The Town of Southport was a local government area in South East Queensland, Australia. History On 11 November 1879, the Nerang and Coomera Divisions was created as two of 74 divisions within Queensland under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''. On 6 Feb 1889, part of Southport Division was separated to be a municipal Shire of Southport, but this shire was abolished on 30 June 1892 and the original division was restored. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', the entire Southport Division became the Shire of Southport on 31 March 1903. William Stephens (Australian Politician)
William Stephens (1857–1925) was a businessman and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life William Stephens was born on 7 November 1857 at South Brisbane, the eldest son of Thomas Blacket Stephens and his wife Ann (née Connah), and raised at the family home of '' Cumbooquepa'' on Vulture Street, South Brisbane. He was educated at the National Public School, then the Brisbane Grammar School. Commencing as a merchant, he took over the family estate on the death of his father. Albert Shire Council
The Shire of Albert was a local government area in Queensland, located south of the capital, Brisbane, and taking in areas to the north and west of the Gold Coast. It was named after the Prince Consort of the United Kingdom, and husband of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert. When created in 1948, it was primarily a rural area, but its growth started in earnest in the late 1960s with the development of Logan on Brisbane's southern frontier. Eric John Gaven (; 16 March 1905 – 18 January 1974) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Gaven was born at Brisbane, Queensland, the son of William Henry Gaven and his wife Emily Mary (née Price). He was educated at Dutton Park and East Brisbane and started his working life at a greengrocer in Woolloongabba.
