Shield (Archie Comics)
The Shield is the name of several superheroes created by MLJ (now known as Archie Comics). Appearing months before Captain America, the Shield has the distinction of being the first superhero with a costume based upon United States patriotic iconography. The character appeared in '' Pep Comics'' from issue #1 (January 1940) to #65 (January 1948). The name was used by MLJ/Archie for four characters. DC Comics' Impact line, which licensed the Archie properties, also used the name for several characters. In 2010, DC announced plans to integrate the Shield and other MLJ characters into the DC Universe, but the rights to the characters reverted to Archie Comics in 2011. Pep Comics
''Pep Comics'' is an American comic book anthology series published by the Archie Comics predecessor Archie Comics, MLJ Magazines Inc. (commonly known as MLJ Comics) during the 1930s and 1940s period known as the Golden Age of Comic Books. The title continued under the Archie Comics imprint for a total of 411 issues until March 1987 in comics, 1987. Chuck Wendig
Charles David Wendig (nicknamed Chuck Wendig; born April 22, 1976) is an American author, comic book writer, screenwriter, and blogger. He is best known for the '' Star Wars: Aftermath'' trilogy. Early life Wendig grew up in New Hope, Pennsylvania. He studied English and religion at Queens University of Charlotte and graduated in 1998. The Web (comics)
The Web is a superhero created by MLJ Comics in 1942 by artist John Cassone and an unknown writer. The character was published in '' Zip Comics'' until 1943, and was later brought back in 1966 to appear in Archie's revived superhero line. DC Comics licensed Archie's superhero characters in 1991, and brought a new revival of the character to life in 2009. 1940s The Web debuted in issue #27 of '' Zip Comics'' in July 1942, having originally been intended for '' Top-Notch Comics'', the change occurring due to a decision to emphasize the humour of ''Top-Notch''. In that first issue, he rescues a woman named Rose Wayne from a Japanese terrorist, the Black Dragon of Death. Rose discovers his secret identity. Black Canary is the name of two superheroines appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Green Arrow is a superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by Mort Weisinger and designed by George Papp, he first appeared in ''More Fun Comics'' No. 73 on September 19, 1941 (cover dated November 1941), the same issue that debuted Aquaman.
