Shaun O'Brien (hurler)
Shaun O'Brien (born 1996) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford SHC club De La Salle and at inter-county level with the Waterford senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a goalkeeper. Career O'Brien first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the De La Salle club in Waterford, before progressing to the club's senior team. He lined out in goal when De La Salle were beaten by Ballygunner in the 2019 Waterford SHC final. O'Brien never played in the minor or under-21 grades with Waterford but was drafted onto the senior team during the pre-season Munster League in 2020. He became Waterford's first choice goalkeeper during the 2021 season. O'Brien's inter-county honours include a National Hurling League title in 2022. De La Salle GAA
De La Salle Gaelic football and hurling club is based in Waterford City, Ireland. The club competes in Gaelic games competitions organised by Waterford GAA board. The club has won the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship twice and the Waterford Senior Football Championship on 6 occasions. While having a notable record in gaelic football, today the club mainly focuses on hurling. History The club takes its name from St. Stephens De La Salle National School in Patrick Street and previous to the current club being established, fielded a hurling team under the name of St. Stephens. St. Stephens won 2 Senior County Hurling Championships, 1913 and 1914. In recent years the club has concentrated on developing juvenile players and now has one of the biggest under age setups in the South East of Ireland. Munster Senior Hurling League
The Munster Senior Hurling League (known in some years as the Munster Hurling Cup) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 2016 for the top inter-county teams in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are played during January. The Munster Senior Hurling League is effectively a pre-season tournament. It allows teams to blood new players and to experiment prior to the opening of the National Hurling League. 2019 was the first year that all six eligible teams participated in the Munster Senior Hurling League. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league.
