Shard End
Shard End is an area of Birmingham, England. It is also a ward within the formal district of Hodge Hill. Shard End borders Castle Bromwich to the north and Kingshurst to the east which are situated in the northern part of the neighbouring Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. History Pre-War Before the end of World War II, Shard End was completely rural and the only buildings were farmhouses, farm outbuildings and tithe cottages. Shard End's most infamous resident was Abraham Thornton, son of the owner of Shard End Farm (then part of the Coleshill estate). He was charged with the murder of a local girl, Mary Ashford, in 1817. The events of the trial led to the abolition of two ancient legal rights – the right of a close relative to demand another trial although the defendant had been acquitted, and the right of a defendant to defend himself by challenging the relative to a duel. The Shard
The Shard, also referred to as the Shard London Bridge and formerly London Bridge Tower, is a 72-storey mixed-use development supertall pyramid-shaped skyscraper, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, in Southwark, London, that forms part of The Shard Quarter development. Standing high, The Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, the seventh-tallest building in Europe, and the second-tallest outside Russia behind the Varso Tower in Warsaw, which beats the Shard by less than half a metre. The Shard replaced Southwark Towers, a 24-storey office block built on the site in 1975. The Shard's construction began in March 2009; it was topped out on 30 March 2012 and inaugurated on 5 July 2012. Practical completion was achieved in November 2012. Shard (comics)
Shard Bishop is a mutant fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Publication history Created by Scott Lobdell and John Romita Jr., the character first appeared in ''The Uncanny X-Men'' #314 (July 1994). Fictional character biography Shard was a Lieutenant in Xavier's Security Enforcers (X.S.E.) with her older brother Lucas Bishop in their native timeline in the 2080s. Shard was born and raised in a mutant concentration camp, in which mutants were branded over their right eyes with the letter "M" for recognition. In Uncanny X-Men Annual #17, Shard is stated as having the mutant ability of "transubbing ambient light into concussive force". Shard became the youngest X.S.E. graduate a year after Bishop attained that position. A database shard, or simply a shard, is a horizontal partition of data in a database or search engine. Each shard may be held on a separate database server instance, to spread load. Some data in a database remains present in all shards, but some appears only in a single shard. Each shard acts as the single source for this subset of data. Database architecture Horizontal partitioning is a database design principle whereby '' rows'' of a database table are held separately, rather than being split into columns (which is what normalization and vertical partitioning do, to differing extents). Lauren Katie Bell (born 2 January 2001) is an English cricketer who plays for Hampshire and Southern Brave. She has previously played for Berkshire, Southern Vipers, UP Warriorz, Sydney Thunder and Middlesex. Bell made her international debut for the England women's cricket team in June 2022.
