Seq24
Seq24 is a software MIDI music sequencer that runs under Linux and Microsoft Windows. Written in C++, it is designed to be simple to use and appropriate for live performance. Distributed under the terms of the GPL-2.0-or-later license, Seq24 is free software. Seq24 is intended to be similar to hardware sequencers/samplers such as Akai's MPC line of instruments. It works by sequencing smaller sequences or loops of MIDI notes and performance information into larger music sequences in a manner similar to the way in which Sony's Acid software is used to sequence audio clips. In order to do this, it has a patterns panel, a pattern editor and a song editor. Sequences are saved as Standard MIDI file format, type 1. While developed from 2002 to 2006 by Rob Buse, a team (calling themselves simply 'Seq24team') picked up the project in 2008 with Rob's blessing, and resumed work with release 0.8.8. Linux Mint
Linux Mint is a community-developed Linux distribution. It is based on Ubuntu and designed for x86-64 based computers; another variant is based on Debian which is named Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) and has both 64-bit and IA-32 support. The Linux Mint project started in 2006 and it has since become one of the most popular Linux operating systems for desktop PCs. Music Production Center
The Akai MPC (originally MIDI Production Center, now Music Production Center) is a series of music workstations produced by Akai from 1988 onwards. MPCs combine sampling and sequencing functions, allowing users to record portions of sound, modify them and play them back as sequences. The first MPCs were designed by the American engineer Roger Linn, who had designed the successful LM-1 and LinnDrum drum machines in the 1980s. Linn aimed to create an intuitive instrument, with a grid of pads that can be played similarly to a traditional instrument such as a keyboard or drum kit. Rhythms can be created using samples of any sound. The MPC had a major influence on the development of electronic and hip-hop music.
