Seaforth, Minnesota
Seaforth is a town in Redwood County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 86 at the 2010 census. History Seaforth was originally called Okawa, and under the latter name was platted in 1894. The present name is after Loch Seaforth, in Scotland. Seaforth was incorporated in 1900. A post office called Seaforth was established in 1899, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1995. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of ; is land and is water. The Redwood River flows through the northeastern corner of the city. Seaforth is located along County Highway 7, which runs between Minnesota State Highways 19 and 67 to the north and 68 to the south. MV Loch Seaforth (2014)
MV ''Loch Seaforth'' is a ferry operated by Caledonian MacBrayne between Stornoway and Ullapool. She was launched on 21 March 2014 and entered service in mid-February 2015, replacing both the former vessel, 1995-built and a chartered freight vessel (latterly ). History Scottish Transport Minister Keith Brown MSP announced on 8 June 2012 there was to be a replacement vessel for the Stornoway-Ullapool route. Two weeks later on 22 June, Caledonian Maritime Assets announced that the contract to construct had been signed with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft MBH and Co KG in Germany. Construction commenced on 16 September 2013 with the cutting of the first steel. The shed at the Flensburger shipyard suffered damage in the St. Jude storm, delaying delivery by about two weeks. The Unionville Seaforths were a junior ice hockey team that played in the now defunct Metro Junior A League for one season, in 1961-62. Unionville were previously a Junior B team, going by the name of the Unionville Jets, prior to being promoted to the new league in 1961. Abdul Kadir (politician)
Abdul Kadir (born Michael Seaforth; 1952 – 28 June 2018) was a Guyanese politician and convicted terrorist. He was a member of Guyana's parliament, the National Assembly and mayor of Guyana's second-largest city, Linden, from 1994 to 1996. A chemical engineer by profession, he served in the National Assembly from 2001 to 2006 as a member of the main opposition party, the People's National Congress Reform. Kadir was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for an alleged Islamist terrorist bomb plot in New York City. Biography Born Michael Seaforth in Buxton, Guyana, he was the son of Victor Seaforth. Earl of Seaforth was a title in the Peerage of Scotland and the Peerage of Ireland, derived from Loch Seaforth on the coast of Lewis. It was held by the family of Mackenzie from 1623 to 1716, and again from 1771 to 1781. History The Mackenzies trace their descent to Colin of Kintail (died 1278), and their name is a variant of Mackenneth. Kenneth, the twelfth head of the clan, was made Lord Mackenzie of Kintail in 1609, and his son Colin, who succeeded his father as 2nd Lord Mackenzie in March 1611, was created earl of Seaforth in 1623. Colin's successor was his half-brother George (died 1651), who became the 2nd earl in 1633. Seaforth Railway Station
Seaforth railway station is a suburban railway station in Gosnells, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Armadale line which is part of the Transperth network, and is south-west of Perth station and north of Armadale station. The station opened on 4 May 1948 with low-level platforms. High-level platforms were added in 1968. The station consists of two side platforms with a pedestrian level crossing. It is not fully accessible due to steep ramps and a lack of tactile paving. Services are operated by the Public Transport Authority. Peak services reach seven trains per hour in each direction, whilst off-peak services are four trains per hour. The station is one of the least used ones on the Transperth network, with just 136 boardings per day in October 2017. Seaforth House
Seaforth House was a mansion in Seaforth, Merseyside, England, built in 1813 for Sir John Gladstone, father of William Ewart Gladstone who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom four times. Sir John had lived on Rodney Street, Liverpool, and decided that he wanted to move his young family away from the city centre. The mansion was built on of Litherland marsh, four miles (6 km) north-northwest of Liverpool. The name Seaforth was taken by Gladstone from the title of Lord Seaforth, the head of the MacKenzie family, to which his second wife's mother belonged. Gladstone also built two cottages for his wife's sisters on the land. Seaforth Armoury
The Seaforth Armoury is a Canadian Forces armoury located at 1650 Burrard Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is the home of The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, a Primary Reserve Infantry unit. The building was designed by the architectural firm of McCarter and Nairne, and is now listed as a Class A Heritage Building. History From their creation in 1910 until 1935 The Seaforth Highlanders of Canada paraded at the Beatty Street Drill Hall with the Duke of Connaught’s Own Rifles. The government was petitioned for a separate armoury to house the regiment and in the early 1930s a site was selected. The site selected was a plot of unused land at the south end of the recently completed Burrard Street Bridge. The address was fixed at 1650 on what had been called Cedar Street but upon completion of the bridge Cedar Street became Burrard Street. Work began in 1935 and construction was finished in 1936. Seaforth were a musical duo of Tom Jordan and Mitch Thompson. They are signed to Sony Nashville and released their debut EP in April 2019. In October 2024, Thompson revealed that Jordan had left the duo, and he would continue Seaforth as a solo project. Career 2017-2021: Career beginnings Tom Jordan and Mitch Thompson grew up together in the Sydney, Australia suburb of Seaforth. After forming the band and considering multiple monikers, the duo decided to name themselves after their hometown. Jordan and Thompson travelled back and forth between the USA and Australia for six years, developing their songwriting and in 2017, they moved to USA full-time.
