Seán Treacy (Galway Hurler)
Seán Treacy (born 1965) is an Irish hurling coach and former player. At club level he played with Portumna, while he also lined out at inter-county level with various Galway teams. Treacy is the current coach of the Clare senior hurling team. Playing career Treacy first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Portumna club. He eventually progressed to adult level and was part of the Portumna team that claimed the Galway IHC title in 1992. Treacy first appeared on the inter-county scene as left corner-back on the minor team that beat Dublin in the 1983 All-Ireland minor final. He later joined the under-21 team and was panel member when Galway won the All-Ireland U21HC title in 1986. By that stage, Treacy had already joined the senior team and was a non-playing substitute when Galway were beaten by Offaly in the 1985 All-Ireland final. Portumna GAA
Portumna GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Portumna, County Galway, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the Galway County Board and is exclusively concerned with the game of hurling. History Located in the town of Portumna, on the Galway- Tipperary border, Portumna GAA Club was established in 1888. The club initially focusses on the game of Gaelic football, with hurling first being played in 1910. Portumna had their first success when, in 1914, the club captured the Galway JHC title. Portumna won a number of East Board juvenile hurling titles throughout the 1950 and 1960s, before disbanding for a period in the early 1970s but later reforming. The club won their second Galway JHC title in 1982. Ten years later, Portumna secured senior status after claiming the Galway IHC title with a defeat of Kilconieron in a final replay. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship () or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. 1986 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship
The 1986 All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship was the 23rd staging of the All-Ireland Under-21 Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1964. Tipperary were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Limerick in the Munster semi-final. On 14 September 1986, Galway won the championship following a 0–14 to 2–5 defeat of Wexford in the All-Ireland final. This was their fourth All-Ireland title in the under-21 grade and their first in three championship seasons. 1995–96 National Hurling League
The 1995–96 National Hurling League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Allianz, Church & General National Hurling League, was the 65th edition of the National Hurling League, which ran from 7 October 1995 until 12 May 1996. Galway won, beating Tipperary in the final. Structure There are eight teams in each division. Each plays each other team once, home or away, and receives two points for a win and one for a draw. The top two teams in Division 1 advance to the semi-finals. The third- and fourth-placed teams in Division 1 go into the quarter-finals, as do the top two teams in Division 2.
