Scott Verplank
Scott Rachal Verplank (born July 9, 1964) is an American professional golfer, who has played on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. Early life Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Verplank was a leading member of the W.T. White High School golf team and a regular at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas. He graduated from high school in 1982. Amateur career Verplank attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. At OSU, he was a member of the 1983 NCAA Championship team, finishing T3 alongside teammates Tommy Moore, Willie Wood, Andy Dillard, and Philip Walton. He went on later to win the 1984 U.S. Amateur and 1986 NCAA individual title. Prior to his senior year at Oklahoma State, Verplank won the Western Open outside Chicago in August 1985; it was the first victory by an amateur on the PGA Tour in 29 years. Butler National Golf Club is a private golf club located in Oak Brook, Illinois. History Butler National was the creation of Paul Butler, an affluent entrepreneur, philanthropist, and sportsman who was also the founder of the village of Oak Brook, Illinois. In 1972, renowned golf course architect George Fazio designed Butler on what was previously York Country Club. It was built and seeded in the relatively short span of two years, and the construction was completed under the supervision of Fazio's nephew Tom Fazio, an internationally acclaimed architect in his own right. Jim Thorpe (golfer)
Jimmy Lee Thorpe (born February 1, 1949) is an American retired professional golfer, who last played on the Champions Tour. Early life Thorpe was born in Roxboro, North Carolina, the ninth of the twelve children of a fairway superintendent. He attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Professional career In 1972, Thorpe turned professional. He won three times on the PGA Tour in the mid-1980s. He has surpassed this at senior level by winning over ten times on the Senior PGA Tour, including one senior major championship, the 2002 Tradition. He made the top ten of the senior tour's career money list in 2004. Philip Joseph Walton (born 28 March 1962) is an Irish professional golfer. Amateur career According to Ronan Rafferty, Walton had the best handicap in the Republic of Ireland as an amateur. Walton attended Oklahoma State University in the United States and played for Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup in 1981 and 1983. Professional career Walton turned professional in 1983 and spent many years on the European Tour, making the top one hundred on the Order of Merit every year from 1983 to 1998, with a best ranking of thirteenth in 1995. He won three European Tour events and four Irish PGA Championships. Walton has represented Ireland or Great Britain & Ireland on many occasions. Andy Dillard (born August 4, 1981 in Saltillo, Mississippi) is a former college baseball All-American, professional player and current coach. Dillard attended Saltillo High School and Itawamba Community College before attending Delta State University, where he earned NCAA Division II All-American honors in 2002. He also earned Player of the Week honors from ''Collegiate Baseball Newspaper'' at one point early in that campaign and also earned the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings South Central Region's Player of the Year honor, First-Team All-Gulf South Conference recognition and the Gulf South Conference Player of the Year award.
