Rapperswil–Ziegelbrücke Railway Line
The Rapperswil–Ziegelbrücke railway line is a single-track standard-gauge railway line in Switzerland. It was built as part of the route from to Glarus, which was opened by the United Swiss Railways (, VSB) on 15 February 1859. History The line was built as an extension of the Wallisellen–Uster–Rapperswil railway (''Glatthalbahn''), which had been extended from Wetzikon to Rüti on 15 August 1858 after its acquisition by the VSB. The line was opened at the same time as the Murg–Sargans line. The intervening section between Weesen and Murg was not completed until 1 July 1859. The line shortened the distance between Zurich and Chur. Its importance as a long-distance line was reduced by the opening on 20 September 1875 by the Swiss Northeast Railway (''Schweizerische Nordostbahn'') of the Lake Zürich left-bank railway, which runs from Zürich to Näfels via and Ziegelbrücke. Ziegelbrücke is a village situated on both sides of the Linth Channel in Switzerland. Ziegelbrücke is shared by the Municipalities of Switzerland, municipalities of Niederurnen in the Cantons of Switzerland, canton of Glarus (canton), Glarus and Schänis in the canton of St. Gallen, with the Linth forming the boundary between these municipalities. Ziegelbrücke railway station () is a junction station in the village of Ziegelbrücke in Switzerland. Whilst the village is shared between the Glarus Nord, municipality of Glarus Nord, in the canton of Glarus, and the Schänis, municipality of Schänis, in the canton of St. Gallen, the station is located in the ''Gemarkung'' of Schänis, where it is the larger of two railway stations (the other being Schänis railway station). Opened in 1875, the station is owned and operated by the Swiss Federal Railways. It is one of the southern termini of the Lake Zurich left bank railway line, a main line that links Zürich Hauptbahnhof with Ziegelbrücke and Näfels.
