Schwandorf–Furth Im Wald Railway
The Schwandorf–Furth im Wald railway is a 67 km long mainline railway in the German state of Bavaria. It runs from Schwandorf station, Schwandorf via Cham, Germany, Cham to Furth im Wald. It is part of a long-distance connection between Germany and the Czech Republic. History The Bavarian Eastern Railway Company (german: Königlich privilegirte Actiengesellschaft der bayerischen Ostbahnen) received a license from King Maximilian II of Bavaria, Maximilian II to build the line on 12 April 1856. The first section from Schwandorf to Cham was opened five years later, on 7 January 1861. The section between Cham and Furth im Wald was opened on 20 September 1861. ''Bundesstraße'' 22 (abbreviated to B 22) is a German federal highway that runs from Würzburg (branching off the B 8 near Rottendorf) in Lower Franconia, through the Upper Franconian cities of Bamberg and Bayreuth and the Upper Palatine town of Weiden, to Cham. Royal Bavarian State Railways
The Royal Bavarian State Railways (''Königliche Bayerische Staats-Eisenbahnen'' or ''K.Bay.Sts.B.'') was the state railway company for the Kingdom of Bavaria. It was founded in 1844. The Royal Bavarian Eastern Railway Company (''Königlich privilegirte Actiengesellschaft der bayerischen Ostbahnen'') or Bavarian Ostbahn was founded in 1856. Furth im Wald (in Czech ''Brod nad Lesy'', resp. ''Bavorský Brod'') is a town in Bavaria, Germany, near the Czech border in the Bavarian Forest, northeast of Cham, and southwest of Domažlice. The city is known as ''Drachenstadt'' (Dragon City), a reference to Furth im Wald's annual ''Drachenstich'' (Slaying of the Dragon) play. Cham (; cs, Kouba) is the capital of the district of Cham in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria in Germany.
