Von Schmidt Auf Altenstadt
The Von Schmidt auf Altenstadt is a Dutch and former German noble family. Also known as Schmidt von Altenstadt, it has branches in other countries including the Netherlands. History Johann Fabricius served Maximilian II against the Turks and was given a coat of arms by the imperial Letters Patent of 2 November 1564. His son Martin was ennobled on 10 December 1577. They were granted a swan coat-of-arms where the swan is in an attack position on the shield; this is repeated in miniature "above the crown". Schmidt Hammer
A Schmidt hammer, also known as a Swiss hammer or a rebound hammer or concrete hammer test, is a device to measure the solid mechanics, elastic properties or strength of concrete or rock (geology), rock, mainly surface hardness and penetration resistance. It was invented by Ernst Heinrich Wilhelm Schmidt, a Swiss engineer. The hammer measures the rebound of a spring-loaded mass impacting against the surface of a sample. The test hammer hits the concrete at a defined energy. Its rebound is dependent on the hardness of the concrete and is measured by the test equipment. By reference to a conversion chart, the rebound value can be used to determine the concrete's compressive strength. When conducting the test, the hammer should be held at right angles to the surface, which in turn should be flat and smooth. The hammer comes with a small grinding stone to create a flat and smooth surface, before the test. The rebound reading will be affected by the orientation of the hammer: when used ...

Schmidt Sting Pain Index
The Schmidt sting pain index is a pain scale rating the relative pain caused by different hymenopteran stings. It is mainly the work of Justin O. Schmidt, who was an entomologist at the Carl Hayden Bee Research Center in Arizona. Schmidt's original 1983 paper was a way to systematize and compare the hemolytic properties of insect venoms. A table in the paper included a column that rated sting pain, starting from 0 for stings that are completely ineffective against humans, progressing through 2 for familiar pains such as those caused by common bee or wasp stings, and finishing at 4 for the most painful stings. Only the bullet ant, ''Paraponera clavata'', was given a rating of 4, although later versions of the index added two more species. Schmidt repeatedly refined his scale, including a paper published in 1990, which classifies the stings of 78 species and 41 genera of Hymenoptera, and culminating in a book published in 2016. Motivation The Schmidt sting pain index arose fro ...
