The 4th constituency of the Saône-et-Loire is a French legislative constituency in the Saône-et-Loire ''département''. Description The 4th constituency of the Saône-et-Loire covers the north of Chalon-sur-Saône and the eastern part of the department. Following substantial boundary changes prior to the 2012 election the seat is now entirely different in character from its predecessor. The seat has historically been a bastion of the Socialist Party, though the new boundaries made it far more marginal and the PS candidate won by only 379 at the 2012 election. In the 2017 election it was one of the few constituencies held by the PS, in this case by over 2,000 votes. Legislative elections were held in France on 16 March 1986 to elect the eighth National Assembly of France, National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic, Fifth Republic. Contrary to other legislative elections of the Fifth Republic, the electoral system used was that of party-list proportional representation. Union For French Democracy
The Union for French Democracy ( ; UDF) was a centre-right political party in France. The UDF was founded in 1978 as an electoral alliance to support President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing in order to counterbalance the Gaullist preponderance over the French centre-right. The UDF took its name from Giscard's 1976 book, ''Démocratie française''. The founding parties of the UDF were Giscard's Republican Party (PR), the Centre of Social Democrats (CDS), the Radical Party (Rad), the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Perspectives and Realities Clubs (CPR). Legislative elections were held in France on 25 May and 1 June 1997 to elect the 11th National Assembly (France), National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic.
