Santa Cruz, officially the Municipality of Santa Cruz (; ), is a municipality in the province of Davao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 101,125 people. The Municipality of Santa Cruz is part of Metropolitan Davao as it shares borders with Davao City. History Santa Cruz is the oldest municipality in the province; it was founded on October 5, 1884, thirty-six years after the foundation of Davao, which is its mother city, by Don José Uyanguren of Guipúzcoa, Spain. Spanish pioneers and missionaries attempted to settle and Christianize the area in what is now Barangay Poblacion as early as 1880. Poverty is measured in different ways by different bodies, both governmental and nongovernmental. Measurements can be absolute, which references a single standard, or relative, which is dependent on context.
