San Giuseppe In Ospedale, Piacenza
San Giuseppe in Ospedale is a Renaissance style, Roman Catholic parish church, located at via Campagna #68, in Piacenza, Region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History A church at this site had been present since the year 701, and been affiliated with the order of the Templars, and later the Knights of Malta. A hostel was attached, as was common for these orders, which likely served some of the pilgrims streaming to Rome and other religious sites South of here. In 1471 it was attached to the adjacent hospital. The church was noted for every Easter displaying the putatively miraculous relic of the ''Sacra Spina'' or ''Holy Thorn'', putatively derived from the crown of thorns place on Christ, and brought to Piacenza in 1015. The church, once property of the Ospedale Grande, now is under the ownership of the Azienda Usl di Piacenza. Robert de Longe (Brussels, 1646 – Piacenza, 1709) was a painter born in present-day Belgium, but active in Northern Italy including Cremona and Piacenza. Biography He is one of many painters known in Italy as ''il Fiammingo'' (the Flemish). De Longe had traveled throughout Italy. In 1680, in Rome he joined painter in the Papal court, and there met Agostino Bonisoli, who brought him to work for many years in Cremona. In 1685, de Longe was invited by the bishop of Piacenza, Giorgio Barni, to work in that city. While a Flemish influence in his work is noticeable, during his stay in Italy, he was influenced by works of Sebastiano Ricci and Giovanni Evangelista Draghi, such as their ''Fasti paintings in the Palazzo Farnese in Piacenza. Giuseppe Bernasconi (''Iosif Ivanovich Bernaskoni''; Russian: Джузеппе/Иосиф Иванович Бернаскони; 1778 – 18 March 1839) was a Russian decorative painter of Swiss-Italian origins. He worked on decorations in many palaces and other buildings in and around Saint Petersburg.
