Samuel Watson (sculptor)
Samuel Watson (1662–1715), an English sculptor in wood and stone, was a native of Heanor, Derbyshire. He was employed at Chatsworth House between 1690 or 1691 and 1711. Family and work Watson was born in Heanor, the son of a husbandman of Heanor, and his wife, Bridget, née Townsend. He was baptised there on 2 December 1662. Little is known of his early life. Samuel Wagan Watson
Samuel Wagan Watson is a contemporary Indigenous Australian poet. Early life and education Samuel Wagan Watson was born in Brisbane and is of Aboriginal ( Munanjali and Birri Gubba), Irish, German, and Dutch descent. His father is novelist and political activist Sam Watson (1952–2019). He grew up in the Mt Gravatt area of Brisbane, and as a child frequently accompanied his parents to protests. He enjoyed rock music, particularly Janis Joplin and the Doobie Brothers, and aspired to be a rock musician. Watson lived in the Sunshine Coast area for a while, and early jobs included as salesman, film technician, and law clerk for the 1987 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. Watson moved back to Brisbane when he started writing as a career. Samuel William Watson (16 November 1952 – 27 November 2019), also known as Sammy Watson Jnr, was an Aboriginal Australian activist from the 1970s, who in later life stood as a Socialist Alliance candidate. He is known for being a co-founder of the Australian Black Panther Party in 1971/2. Through work at the Brisbane Aboriginal Legal Service in the early 1990s, Watson was involved in implementing the findings of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. From 2009 was deputy director at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit at the University of Queensland. He was also a writer and a filmmaker, and received honours for his 1990 novel ''The Kadaitcha Sung''. Samuel Watson (born February 27, 2006) is an American professional rock climber who specializes in competition speed climbing and represents the United States at IFSC Climbing World Cups. He holds the world record for the discipline at 4.64 seconds, accomplished at the 2025 IFSC Climbing World Cup in Bali, Indonesia. He won a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. Sam Watson (born 28 December 1985) is an Irish eventing rider. Representing Ireland, he has competed at three editions of World Equestrian Games (in 2010, 2014 and 2018). His best achievements came at the 2018 edition of the Games, held in Tryon, North Carolina, where he won a silver medal with an Irish team and placed 14th individually. Watson has also competed at numerous European Championships. His best result at the European stage is 4th place in team eventing in 2011. Samuel Watson CBE (11 March 1898 – 7 May 1967) was Agent of the Durham Miners' Association and member of the British Labour Party’s National Executive Committee. Watson was born on 11 March 1898 in the village of Boldon Colliery, in County Durham. After an elementary education, at the age of 14 he became an underground coalminer at Boldon Colliery. By the age of 20 he had become secretary of the Boldon Miner's Lodge, continuing to work down the pit until 1936, when he became an agent of the Durham Miners' Association. In 1947 he became General Secretary of the recently reorganised National Union of Mineworkers (Durham Area). He was active in the Labour Party, was for 22 years a member of its National Executive Committee, and served as its chairman for the year 1949–1950. He declined the possibility of seeking political office in London, however, preferring to remain in Durham. He made a clock for King Charles II and was an associate of Isaac Newton.
