The (, 'Girl Scouts of Georgia 'Dia') is the national Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Girl Scouting organisation of Georgia (country), Georgia. It serves 805 members (as of 2006). The girls-only became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, WAGGGS in 1999. ''Dia'' itself is an ancient Georgian language, Georgian Given name, feminine name, referring to the goddess associated in Georgian mythology with the planet Jupiter. Patriot Camps
The Patriot camps ( ka, პატრიოტული ბანაკი) are state-sponsored summer camps for the teenagers of Georgia. The Patriot camps were initiated by the president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili in 2005. Each year tens of thousands of young Georgians attend summer camps for ten days, with expenses paid by the Georgian government. Participation is voluntary. In 2007 seven patriot camps will operate. The declared aim of the project is to raise national pride in young Georgians and to counter social problems of the country. The participants are from poor backgrounds aged 15 to 20. Activities in the camps focus on sporting and cultural events. President Saakashvili, the initiator of the program, himself a former pioneer, rebutted any parallels to Soviet Young Pioneer camps, saying that this is as different as it can get. (in Georgian: ; 'Georgian Organization of the Scout Movement'), the national Scouting organization of Georgia, was founded in 1994, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1997. The coeducational has 1,343 members as of 2011. History Scouting first came to what is now the Republic of Georgia around the 1920s, by way of the British business community in the western part of the country. There was no formalized Georgian Scouting within Georgia prior to the breakup of the former USSR, and within Georgia, Scouting did not exist during the period preceding the collapse of the Soviet Union. A Girl Guide or Girl Scout is a member of a section of some Guiding organisations who is between the ages of 10 and 14. Age limits are different in each organisation. Girl Scouts and Girl Scout organizations already existed in Britain and other Commonwealth countries when Robert Baden-Powell founded The Girl Guides Association in 1910. There are many Girl Scouts organizations, e.g. the British Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts of the USA. The two terms are used synonymously within this article.
