Saint Mary's Huskies Men's Ice Hockey
The Saint Mary's Huskies men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Saint Mary's Huskies athletics program of Saint Mary's University. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Dauphinee Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. History Saint Mary's ice hockey program had a difficult start, though at first it was entirely of their own making. The team joined the Maritime Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1929 and promptly won the conference tournament that season. However, the school's administrators were not enamored by the Huskies' exploits. Three years later, when Saint Mary's had a chance for a second championship, the team was forbade from participating as the final game occurred during Lent. Saint Mary's Huskies
The Saint Mary's Huskies are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their primary home turf is Huskies Stadium located in the centre of the University's campus. In September 2007, Saint Mary's announced the plans to build the new Homburg Centre for Health & Wellness that will comprise the current gymnasium (The Tower), the new Dauphinee Arena, and a new building to connect the two. The centre is to be named after Richard Homburg, who provided a $5 million gift to the project, the largest gift the university had received in its 205-year history. The Dauphinee Arena, completed in 2019, has an NHL-sized ice surface and a seating capacity for 875. The arena is named for the late Mr. Bob Dauphinee who was a strong supporter of the Huskies hockey team for over 50 years. AUS Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The Atlantic University Sport ice hockey tournament is an annual conference championship held between member teams. The winner receives an automatic bid to the U Sports men's ice hockey championship. History The formation of the conference occurred after the maritime schools restarted their ice hockey programs after World War I. The UPEI Panthers men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the UPEI Panthers athletics program of University of Prince Edward Island. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. History The University of Prince Edward Island was formed in 1969 when Saint Dunstan's University merged with Prince of Wales College. The ice hockey team was arranged in the college's first year and assumed Saint Dunstan's spot in the MIAA. UPEI had its best run to date in the late 80s and early 90s, winning four league championships. The Toronto Varsity Blues men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team operated by the Varsity Blues athletics program of the University of Toronto. They are members of the Ontario University Athletics conference and compete in U Sports. The Varsity Blues senior team won the Allan Cup in 1921 and 1927, and won the gold medal for Canada at the 1928 Winter Olympics. The Dalhousie Tigers men's ice hockey team is an ice hockey team representing the Dalhousie Tigers athletics program of Dalhousie University. The team is a member of the Atlantic University Sport conference and compete in U Sports. The team plays their home games at the Halifax Forum in Halifax, Nova Scotia. History Though Dalhousie has a history of fielding an ice hockey team as far back as 1894, the school played its first official season of varsity men's hockey in 1962. The program's best period was initiated by a run to the CIAU championship gam in 1979 that saw the team win its first conference championship. The Tigers routinely earned a playoff berth over the succeeding 25 years, however, they were never able to capture a second conference title in that span.
