Korčula Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. Mark ( hr, Katedrala sv. Marka) also called Korčula Cathedral, is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Korčula, Croatia. It occupies an elevated position in the town centre. Architecture and furnishings The cathedral was built by local masters from the fifteenth century to the mid-sixteenth century. In 1557, an organ was placed in the cathedral. Tintoretto painted the altarpiece. The portal is the work of Bonino da Milano. A new organ was built in 1787 by Vinko Klisevic. In modern times, a bronze statue of Jesus Christ, the work of Croatian sculptor Frano Kršinić, was added to the baptistery. Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral is a Coptic church in Alexandria, Egypt. It is the historical seat of the Pope of Alexandria, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church. On Palm Sunday, 9 April 2017, an Islamic State operative detonated his suicide belt in the cathedral, killing 17 people and wounding 48. Beginning The cathedral is said to stand on the site of the church founded by St. Mark the Evangelist in AD 42. St. Mark the Evangelist (author of the second Gospel) has been connected with the city of Alexandria since earliest Christian tradition. Coptic Christians believe he arrived in Alexandria around AD 42 and stayed for about seven years. During this time, Mark converted many to Christianity and performed many miracles. St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral is a Coptic church located in the Abbassia District in Cairo, Egypt. The cathedral is the Seat of the Coptic Orthodox Pope. It was built during the time when Pope Cyril VI of Alexandria was Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, and was consecrated on 25 June 1968. The church is dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist, an apostle of Jesus and founder of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Relics of his life are kept inside. It was, until 2019, (after the inauguration of the new Nativity Cathedral) the largest cathedral in Africa and the Middle East. Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral is a Coptic Orthodox Church, Coptic Orthodox church in Azbakeya, Cairo. It was the seat of the Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Coptic Pope from 1800 to 1971. Due to Ibrahim El-Gohary's influential position in the government and his great favor to the Muslim rulers, he was able to issue fatwas that permitted the Copts to rebuild the destroyed church architecture, churches and monastery, monasteries. This was of particular importance because the Copts were not allowed to build new churches or to repair old ones unless they got official government approval, which was rarely granted. One of these churches that he built is Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Azbakeya in Cairo, that his brother completed and inaugurated by Pope Mark VIII of Alexandria, Pope Mark VIII in 1800. San Marco is a minor basilica in Rome dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist located in the small Piazza di San Marco adjoining Piazza Venezia. It was first built in 336 by Pope Mark, whose remains are in an urn located below the main altar. The basilica is the national church of Venice in Rome. San Marco is a religious complex in Florence, Italy. It comprises a church and a convent. The convent, which is now the Museo Nazionale di San Marco, has three claims to fame.
