Saint Louis Billikens Men's Ice Hockey
The Saint Louis Billikens men's ice hockey is an ACHA Division III ice hockey team that plays in the Silver Division (D-III) of the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association. They are coached by Head Coach Liam Knobbe and Assistant Coaches Dylan Kelly, Chaz Palumbo, and Nolan Meyer. The Billikens previously played in NCAA Division I from 1970 to 1979. History Division I Saint Louis University began sponsoring ice hockey as a Division I sport in 1970, partly to capitalize on the new NHL team, the St. Louis Blues, that had begun playing only three years earlier. The Billikens were able to reach an agreement with Blues owner Sid Salomon Jr. to play their home games at the newly renovated St. Louis Arena, giving Saint Louis by far the largest home venue in the college ranks. The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) is a college ice hockey conference which operates in the Midwestern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a women's-only conference. From 1951 to 1999, it operated as a men-only league, adding women's competition in the 1999–2000 season. It operated men's and women's leagues through the 2020–21 season; during this period, the men's WCHA expanded to include teams far removed from its traditional Midwestern base, with members in Alabama, Alaska, and Colorado at different times. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team of the University of North Dakota.
