The Mill Hill Missionaries (MHM), officially known as the Saint Joseph's Missionary Society of Mill Hill (), is a Catholic Church, Catholic society of apostolic life founded in 1866 by Herbert Vaughan, Herbert A. Vaughan. History The society was founded in 1866 by Herbert Vaughan, Herbert A. Vaughan. In 1871, Pope Pius IX requested members be sent to America to work with the newly freed African Americans. In 1892, the members in North American were granted independence as the Society of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart (Josephites), was formed. The society was formerly based at St Joseph's College at Mill Hill in north London. The late 1960s saw the development of the Missionary Institute of London to consolidate training facilities for the various mission societies in Britain. St Joseph's College site was closed in 2006. Maidenhead is a market town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in the county of Berkshire, England. Alice Ingham
Alice Ingham (8 March 1830 – 24 August 1890) was an English Catholic religious sister and missionary. She founded the Franciscan order of Sisters of St. Joseph's Society for Foreign Missions. Biography She was born 8 March 1830 in Rochdale, England to George and Margaret Ingham. Her mother died in 1842; her father remarried. After an elementary education, Alice went to work in a cotton mill, after which she was apprenticed to her father, a draper based in Yorkshire Street, where she worked with her step-mother. By 1861 he had become invalid, and she was running the family business, which was then called "Ingham's Caps and Confectionery". She was known locally for her charitable work. In 1861 she joined the third order Franciscans. Her father died in 1865 and, after receiving advice and encouragement from a Franciscan priest and a Passionist nun, she started a small religious and charitable organisation of women in 1871. John Anthony Kaiser (November 29, 1932 – August 23, 2000) was a Roman Catholic priest and Mill Hill father from Perham, Minnesota, US, who was assassinated near his mission at Morendat, near Naivasha, Rift Valley Province, Kenya. Early life John Anthony Kaiser was born in Perham, Minnesota, USA. John attended Saint John's Preparatory School and St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, for two years before he joined the army in 1954. He was a paratrooper and advanced to the rank of Sergeant. He graduated from Saint Louis University in 1960 with a BA in English Literature. While in St. Louis, he joined the Knights of Columbus. Cornelius "Cor" Schilder, M.H.M. (born 19 September 1941) is an emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop from the Netherlands. He was the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ngong in Kenya from 2003 to 2009. Biography Cornelius Schilder was born on 19 September 1941 in Westwoud in the Netherlands. He studied philosophy at Mill Hill College in Roosendaal, and later theology at Mill Hill College in London, England. On 29 June 1968, he was ordained as priest in Westwoud. In 1971, he went to Kenya with the Mill Hill Missionaries and worked in the dioceses Ngong and Garissa. In 2002, he was appointed Bishop of Ngong after Colin Cameron Davies retired. On 25 January 2003 he was consecrated as bishop. In 2009, he retired "due to health problem". Colin Cameron Davies (10 June 1924 – 8 January 2017) was a Spanish-born prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. Davies was born in Las Palmas, Spain, to Arthur and Ellen Mary (née Joyce) Davies, the third in the family of six children. Herbert Alfred Henry Joseph Thomas Vaughan (15 April 1832 – 19 June 1903) was an English prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Westminster from 1892 until his death in 1903, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1893. He was the founder in 1866 of St Joseph's Foreign Missionary Society, known best as the Mill Hill Missionaries. He also founded the Catholic Truth Society and St. Bede's College, Manchester. As Archbishop of Westminster, he led the capital campaign and construction of Westminster Cathedral. In 1871 Vaughan sent a group of Mill Hill priests to the United States to minister to freedmen. Pope John XXIII (born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli; 25 November 18813 June 1963) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 28 October 1958 until his death on 3 June 1963. Lochwinnoch (; , ) is a village in the council area and historic county of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland.
