Saint Anthony's Caves
The history of Saint Anthony caves in Chernihiv, Ukraine started in the second half of the nineteenth century when Anthony of Kyiv came to Boldina Gora. The place had unique power, so he dug out a cave for solitude and prayers. Chernihiv and Kyiv were the largest centers of the Kievan Rus, and they faced constant confrontation. To keep up with Kyiv's pace, the first church of the contemporary Trinity Monastery complex appeared a century later. The total length of the Chernihiv underground premises is about 350 meters (1148 feet). Anthony Of Kiev
Anthony of Kiev also called Anthony of the Caves ( uk, Антоній Печерський, russian: Антоний Печерский; c. 983–1073) was a monk and the founder of the monastic tradition in Kievan Rus'. Together with Theodosius of Kiev, he co-founded the Kiev Pechersk Lavra (Kiev Monastery of the Caves). Early life He was born in Lyubech (present-day Liubech, Ukraine) in Chernigov Principality and was baptized with the name "Antipas". He was drawn to the spiritual life from an early age and left for the Greek Orthodox Esphigmenou Monastery on Mount Athos to live as a hermit. He lived in a secluded cave there overlooking the sea, which is open to visitors today. In circa 1011, the abbot gave Anthony the job of expanding monasticism in his native Kiev (present-day Kyiv, Ukraine), which had only recently begun its conversion to Christianity. Boldina Gora
Boldyni Hory or Boldyni Hills historical area in the regional center of Chernihiv (Novozavodskyi district) on the right bank of the Desna, as well as a monument of landscape art (since 1972). Boldyni Hory are located two kilometers from the historic center of Chernihiv. From the center of Chernihiv one can walk or take public transport to Tolstoy street. The monuments are formed from 20 to 35-meter hills developed by an arc south of the floodplain of the Stryzhen River. The area has long been inhabited, many archeological, historical and architectural monuments have been preserved on its territory.
