Fort Saint Pierre
Fort Saint Pierre on Rainy Lake was the first French fort built west of Lake Superior. It was the first of eight forts built during Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, the elder Vérendrye's expansion of trade and exploration westward from the Great Lakes. Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets () is a village municipality located in the Centre-du-Québec region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It is situated on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, approximately east-northeast of Montreal and southwest of Quebec City. The village is part of the Bécancour Regional County Municipality and has a population of 1,183 people according to the 2021 Canadian census. History The area where Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets now stands was originally inhabited by the First Nations peoples. The first European to arrive in the area was Jacques Cartier in 1535. The village was founded in 1847 and was originally named Saint-Pierre-de-Becquets, in honour of the Saint Pierre River which flows through the area and to Romain Becquet. Ville Saint-Pierre () is a small neighbourhood of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, located in the Borough of Lachine. It was a separate town until it merged with Lachine in 1999. In 2002, the amalgamated city of Lachine merged into Montreal. The borders of the neighbourhood are the Lachine Canal/ Borough of LaSalle to the south and east, the Town of Montreal West to the north and the rest of Lachine to the west. Mont-Saint-Pierre () is a village municipality in Quebec, Canada, located in the regional county municipality of La Haute-Gaspésie in the administrative region of Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine. The village is located at the foot of the eponymous Mount Saint-Pierre. This high mount juts into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, separating Cove Mont-Louis from Cove Mont-Saint-Pierre, into which the Mont-Saint-Pierre River flows. The place was formerly called Rivière-à-Pierre. The 2021 census there were 186 inhabitants. Mont-Saint-Pierre is well known for hang-gliding and paragliding, and home to the Mont-Saint-Pierre Ecological Reserve.
