Saint-Jean-Baptiste () is a municipality (Quebec), municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec, a Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province. The population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 3,179. It is located within La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality in a valley between Mont Saint-Hilaire and Mont Rougemont. On November 4, 1998 it moved from Rouville Regional County Municipality to La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality. Mont-Joli, Quebec
Mont-Joli () is a city in the La Mitis Regional County Municipality within the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada. It is the county seat. The city is located east of Rimouski near the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River. History In 1867, the main condition for New Brunswick and Nova-Scotia entering into the Canadian Confederation was, to be linked to the rest of the country by the railway. In 1868, work began on the Intercolonial Railway and the authorities decided to have the railway turn at Saint-Octave-de-Métis in Gaspésie. However, this village, because of its rugged landscape, was not suitable to receive the train station and maintenance shops. The engineers turned to the higher 2nd farming rank of Sainte-Flavie, and the train station was named Sainte-Flavie-Station. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society (, ) is an institution in the Canadian province of Quebec dedicated to the protection of Quebec francophone interests and to the promotion of Quebec sovereignism. It is known as the oldest patriotic association in French North America. The society's president from 2009 to 2014, Mario Beaulieu, subsequently became leader of the Bloc Québécois. Its current president, Maxime Laporte, is known for being coordinator (president) of , an umbrella group of various independentist organisations. History The society was created by Ludger Duvernay, a journalist for '' La Minerve'' in Lower Canada. It evolved from the Société ''Aide-toi et le ciel t'aidera'' ("help yourself and heaven will help you"), which was founded by Duvernay on March 8, 1834. Alès Cathedral
Alès Cathedral () is a Roman Catholic church architecture, church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and located in the town of Alès in the department of Gard, France. It has been a ''monument historique'' since 9 May 1914. Alès was formerly a centre of the Huguenots and was taken only after a long siege by Louis XIII in 1627. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Alès was established here in 1694, at which time the construction of the cathedral began, but was not restored after the French Revolution: by the Concordat of 1801 its parishes were divided between the Diocese of Avignon, dioceses of Avignon and Diocese of Mende, Mende. Alès and its cathedral lie near the start of The Regordane Way, or St. Gilles Trail, an ancient road and medieval pilgrimage route. Bazas Cathedral
Bazas Cathedral () is a Roman Catholic church located in Bazas, Gironde, France. The cathedral is a national monument. Bazas was the seat of the Bishop of Bazas until the French Revolution (after which it was not restored but was instead, by the Concordat of 1801, divided between the dioceses of Bordeaux, Agen and Aire) and its main attraction is still the cathedral dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, so named because the blood of John the Baptist was venerated here. The cathedral dominates the town and stands at the east end of a wide, open space called the parvis. The cathedral dates mainly from the 13th-14th centuries, and was built on the model of the great Gothic cathedrals of northern France.
