Sailing At The 1972 Summer Olympics – Dragon
The Dragon (keelboat), Dragon was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 1972 Summer Olympics program in Kiel-Schilksee. Seven races were scheduled. Only six races were sailed due to weather conditions. 70 sailors, on 23 boats, from 23 nation competed. It was the last Olympic appearance of the Dragon. Race schedule Because of insufficient wind the scheduled race in the Dragon was postponed on 5 September 1972. Due to the interruption of the Games on 6 September 1972, the race was postponed till 7 September. Then the race conditions were unsuitable. Heavy fog and poor wind conditions made it not possible to race until 8 September. Finally for the Dragon only six regattas took place. Also the medal ceremony was also postponed until 8 September. Poul Richard Høj Jensen "PRHJ" (born 2 June 1944) is a Danish sailor, boatbuilder, sailmaker and Olympic champion. Høj Jensen lives with his wife Sophia alternating in Burnham-on-Crouch and Freetown, Antigua and Barbuda. Personal life Married with two children, two step children; seven grand children to date. Trained in mechanical engineering. Professional career After completing National Service in the Danish Navy, Høj Jensen worked for Paul Elvstrøm and Hans Fogh in the sail, mast and boatbuilding business. Left the company 15 years later to set up sail making business with Hans Fogh and subsequently started his own Company "Høj Jensen Design" which became the North Sails Scandinavia franchise. Ulf Artur Sundelin (born 26 August 1943) is a retired Swedish sailor. Together with his younger brothers Peter and Jörgen he won a gold medal in the 5.5 metre class at the 1968 Olympics and a silver medal at the 1969 World Championships. Peter Sundelin
Peter Nils Sundelin (born 13 January 1947) is a retired Swedish sailor. Together with his elder brothers Jörgen and Ulf he won a gold medal in the 5.5 metre class at the 1968 Olympics and a silver medal at the 1969 World Championships. The brothers also won the 1971 world title in the three-person keelboat ( Dragon class) and placed sixth and ninth at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, respectively. Peter was the strongest physically among the Sundelin brothers. In the 1980s, he competed with different partners in the two-person keelboat at the 1980 Olympics and world championships.
