It was the first women's windsurfing competition at the Olympics to use the iQFoil board, which replaced the RS:X boards that had been used in the previous four Olympics. 24 sailors from 24 nations competed in 14 opening series races. Yan Zheng (sailor)
Yan Zheng is a marine geochemist known for her research on metals in groundwater and private wells in Bangladesh, China, and the United States. She is an elected fellow of the Geological Society of America and the American Geophysical Union. Education and career Zheng has a B.S. from the University of Science and Technology (1988). She then moved to Columbia University where she earned an M.A. (1993), an M.Phil (1994), and a Ph.D. (1999). Zheng began a position at Queens College, City University of New York in 1998 and was promoted to professor in 2006, and served as the director of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences from 2012 until 2016. The number of sailors competing across ten different events at these Games has been reduced from 350 to 330, with an equal distribution between men and women. Furthermore, several significant changes are instituted in the sailing program for Paris 2024 to reinforce gender equality and vast diversity among the nations in the qualifying process. Maja Dziarnowska (born 7 August 1990 in Gdańsk) is a Polish windsurfer, Olympian from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, World Championship silver medalist in Formula Windsurfing (2012, 2020) and Funboard (2016), and European Championship bronze medalist in iQFoil (2022). Career At the age of 12, Dziarnowska started training at the Sopot Sailing Club. She graduated from the Jędrzej Śniadecki Academy of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk. Hélène Noesmoen (born 31 December 1992) is a French windsurfer who competes in the IQFoil class. She won the women's events at the 2021 IQFoil World Championships and the 2020, 2021 and 2022 IQFoil European Championships. Noesmoen also won the RS:X event at the 2018 Sailing World Cup in Miami, and multiple junior world championships. Personal life Noesmoen is from Les Sables-d'Olonne, France. She started windsurfing at a young age, initially with an RS:X. Low-point system is a point system in the Racing Rules of Sailing The ''Racing Rules of Sailing'' (often abbreviated to RRS) govern the conduct of yacht racing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, model boat racing, dinghy racing and virtually any other form of racing around a course with more than one vessel while power ... where all the boats in each race of the series score the same number of points as they finish in the race, so that the first boat to cross the finish line gets one point, the second two points.
