Sablé (biscuit)
Sablé is a French round shortbread cookie that might have originated in Sablé-sur-Sarthe in Sarthe. History According to the letters of the Marquise de Sévigné, the cookie was maybe created for the first time in Sablé-sur-Sarthe in 1670. The French word ''sablé'' means "sandy", a rough equivalent of English "breadcrumbs". Generally, the baker begins the process by rubbing cold butter into flour and sugar to form particles of dough until the texture resembles that of breadcrumbs or sand. Recipe Among the most well-known sablé recipes are those of La Mère Poulard, and the cookies of Saint-Michel and Pont-Aven. Sablé-sur-Sarthe (, literally ''Sablé on Sarthe''), commonly referred to as Sablé, is a commune in the Sarthe department, in the Pays de la Loire region, western France. It is about 40 km southwest of Le Mans and about 50 km northeast of Angers. Population Geography The Vaige forms part of the commune's north-western border, flows southwards through the middle of the commune, then flows into the Sarthe River in the town of Sablé-sur-Sarthe. History French prime minister François Fillon was mayor of Sablé from 1983 to 2001, which therefore has a TGV station on the line from Paris-Nantes despite a relatively small population. Tourism The town is a hub for river cruising along the Sarthe. There is a festival of baroque music every August. Industry From 2010 to 2015, the motor car firm Venturi had a factory at Sablé-sur-Sarthe. Julien Sablé
Julien Sablé (born 11 September 1980) is a French professional football manager. In his playing days as a midfielder, he represented France at youth international level. Club career Sablé began his career at Saint-Étienne, where he made his first team debut in the 1997–98 season. He became an integral member of the club the following season, when they earned promotion to Ligue 1. Sablé later earned the captain's armband at Saint-Étienne. In 2007, he signed a contract with Lens. In January 2009, he joined Nice, where he would eventually become club captain. He joined Bastia in October 2012, before retiring at the end of the following season, the same day as Mickaël Landreau. Managerial career In December 2017, Sablé, who had been working as Saint-Étienne's under-19 coach, stepped in as the club's interim head coach following the departure of Óscar García. He managed six games, with a record of two draws and four losses, before being replaced by Jean-Louis Gasset. ...
