SCM Gloria Buzău (rugby Union)
SCM Gloria Buzău is a professional Romanian rugby union club from Buzău, which plays, starting with 2018-2019 edition, in the CEC Bank SuperLiga, the first division of Romanian club rugby. At the end of April, Gloria Buzău announced that they will withdraw from the national competition due to financial issues caused by the Coronavirus pandemic leaving only 6 teams in the SuperLiga for the remainder of the season. But they will continue to support their U10`s and U12`s teams. History The team was founded in 2005 and bore the name Stejarul Buzău for most of its history. It was financed by the local authorities on a per-project basis until 2017, when the municipality created a sports club called ''Sport Club Municipal Gloria'' and took over several other sports teams in the city, including ''Stejarul''. Buzău
Buzău (; formerly spelled ''Buzeu'' or ''Buzĕu'') is a city in the historical region of Muntenia, Romania, and the county seat of Buzău County. The Liga Națională de Rugby () is a professional rugby union club competition that is played in Romania. In the 2023 season there are 14 teams competing. The competition was established in 1913 and is governed by the Romanian Rugby Federation. Steaua București is the most successful club in the competition with 24 titles. History The first Romanian competition took place in 1914 between two Bucharest team's in Tennis Club Român and Sporting Club with Tennis Club Român taking out the first title winning both of the matches by eight and three points respectively. 2019–20 SuperLiga Season
The 2019–20 SuperLiga (also known as the CEC Bank SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons) is the 106th season of premier club rugby in Romania. Starting with this edition, the number of participating teams has decreased from eight teams to seven, due to CSM București dissolving before the start of the new season. At the end of April, Gloria Buzău announced that their senior team have dissolved due to financial issues concerning the COVID-19 pandemic leaving only 6 teams remaining in the SuperLiga for the remainder of the season. During August 2020, it was announced that Timișoara Saracens RCM UVT will restart in the SuperLiga under the new name of SCM Timișoara Rugby. Ionuț Balaban (born 23 May 1996) is a Romanian rugby union football player. He plays as a centre for professional Fédérale 1 club Sporting Club Appaméen. Club career Ionuț Balaban started playing rugby in 2010 at CSS Bârlad, a school-based club under the guidance of coaches Ciprian Popa and Ioan Harnagea.
